This week...
On Tuesday, we had the first of our outdoor learning experience days at Ledston Estate. This week, it was KS2's turn, with KS1 to follow on 7th October. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend but the children (and staff!) couldn't wait to tell me how much fun they'd had! A huge thank you to our volunteers, who attended to help us out too. Everybody told me how wonderful the day had been, and, even more importantly, how impressive our amazing children were. Have a look below (and on our social media accounts) for photos.
Next week marks the beginning of our series of school tours and open sessions. If you know anyone with a child due to start school next Sept, please share our poster with them!
Thank you, as always, for supporting us to
Live, love and learn with the Lord.
Mrs Ronicle
Virtue
This has been our final week exploring the virtue, Love of Learning.
As the term has progressed, we have seen this virtue displayed so beautifully through our children.
It is clear that St Joseph's children love being here as part of our school family!
KS2 Ledston Outdoor Trip
KS2 enjoyed a fantastic day out to the Countryside Day at Ledston Estate. We took part in a variety of activities including handling unusual animals, working in teams to build large natural dens, meeting a training a beautiful big black Labrador and learning how to identify deer local to our area! Everyone had a brilliant time and all the staff were so proud of our St Joseph's pupils who showed us some amazing qualities of teamwork, resilience, communication and commitment; well done KS2!
If you know anyone starting school in Sept 2025, please share our poster below:
Attendance Update
Whole School Attendance this week: 88%
This week, our attendance is significantly below National Average.
We do understand, however, that there has been a nasty tummy bug doing the rounds and the vast majority of absence this week was authorised due to illness.
We pray for a speedy recovery to those families affected!
We are planning to share weekly advice for families, from the wonderful Wake Up Wednesday series. If you would like any further information or discussion about anything we share, please feel free to contact us. Have a look at this week's information about worry and anxiety:
This week, we have been learning...
St Nicholas Class (Nursery)
Our learning this week has been centred around the book character, Elmer, the patchwork elephant. We have enjoyed sticking tissue paper squares onto a bottle and making it into Elmer. We also created stained glass elephants, to stick on our Nursery windows!
St Francis Class (Preschool / Reception)
Another amazing week in Early Years! We have been reading the book Elmer together and exploring colour, shape and size. We've been using our new mathematical vocabulary to compare, contrast and describe our models and towers! We have also baked Elmer biscuits as part of our school community to support the Macmillan coffee morning!
St Bernadette Class (Year 1/2)
This week to introduce our new English topic on instructions, we made jam sandwiches. We learnt the importance of being specific and precise with the instructions, so everyone knows what they need to do. We were able to give and follow verbal instructions and finish with some delicious sandwiches!
St Patrick Class (Year 3/4)
In Science this week, we thought about natural changes to a habitat. We made books about a habitat, but each page had a different natural change to it. We attached a native animal to a piece of string so the animal could explore the different seasons and weather drawn in the book.
St Therese Class (Year 5/6)
As mentioned above, St Therese were thrilled to enjoy a trip to Ledston Estate this week for our countryside day. We couldn't resist sharing this picture of one of our brave children, volunteering to handle a tarantula! What an achievement!
