RRRSEF Basics
Participation
Students in grades 3-12. Schools will hold their own fair at their campus or district, and select regional qualifiers from that group. The number of qualifiers eligible from each school is as follows:
Elementary (3rd-5th): 4 projects per school
Middle (6th-8th): 6 projects per school
High School (9th-12th): 6 projects per school
Categories
Projects will be entered under one of three categories: biological sciences, physical sciences, or engineering.
Awards and Advancements
In each grade band, 1st-3rd place winners will be chosen for each category. 1st and 2nd place projects in each category will advance to the Texas State Science and Engineering Fair in College Station, held March 28-29. Additionally, special awards may be recognized by donor groups. One overall winner will advance to the International Science and Engineering Fair in Columbus, OH in May 2025.
The Red River Regional SEF will arrange to pay for travel and accommodation for the winner to attend ISEF in Columbus. However, any projects that advance to TxSEF in College Station will be required to cover their own registration and travel costs.
Location
The RRRSEF will be held at MSU's Clark Student Center on February 14, 2025.
Registration
There will be a $20 registration fee for each project submitted to the fair. STEMWizard is the registration and payment site for all ISEF-affiliated fairs, at rrrsef.stemwizard.com. It will house all relevant forms and paperwork.
Project Timeline

September: Start building student interest in participating in the science fair.
October 10 (optional): Bring high school students to Region 9 for the Expert Panel to help generate project ideas.
November 1: Students and teachers register in STEM Wizard. Students submit project overview, research plan, and the checklist for adult sponsor. (Teachers must approve student projects via the checklist BEFORE students begin working on the project.)
January 1: Students should complete their projects and write an abstract following the directions in STEM Wizard.
January 31: Students present their projects at a campus or district fair, and winners are selected to advance to the regional fair.
February 7: All paperwork for regional qualifying students must be submitted online to STEM Wizard. Only projects that advance to the regional fair will pay the $20 registration fee.
February 13: Project drop-off at MSU.
February 14: Red River Regional Science and Engineering Fair at MSU.
October 10th Expert Panel
On Thursday, October 10th, high school teachers and students have the opportunity to learn from a panel of experts in a variety of scientific fields. Each local expert will speak about the real-world science they do on a daily basis, and the problems they are working to solve. Students will have designated time to ask questions and seek advice about their project ideas. The panel will be held at Region 9 ESC from 9am to 12 pm.
