Attendance in school is the key to student success. Please know we expect students to be present each and everyday. If your child needs to be absent, please let Ashley Guzman, our attendance clerk know as soon as possible. If your child needs to be absent due to a medical concern, please submit a doctor's note. Excused absences are at the discretion of the Principal. Please know, vacations will not be considered an excused absence.

You can check grades via your child's focus account or you can have a parent portal account created. You should check your child's grades weekly.

You can submit clinic permissions, library access, technology borrower form and more on the parent portal account! You will need to update forms each year your child is in school, but the parent portal account is a quick and efficient way to submit forms!

Parents we have seen an increase in girls wearing bike shorts, short shorts, and short skirts. Please know the dress code says shorts and skirts must be mid thigh in length. Bike shorts and leggings are not permitted. Please help us address these issues with your child. We will be documenting these as dress code violations.

Did you know we can reset student passwords on campus? While the district help desk is always willing to help, please have your child see our tech during lunch to have their password reset. Our tech is here to help your child with tech issues and will be in lunches each day to assist student needs.

Author Jen Calonita is visiting our school on September 30! Copies of her new book "Fairy Godmother" are available to purchase on MySchoolBucks. All copies will be signed, and students who purchase a copy are guaranteed to attend the author visit.

PBIS SOAR Store is looking for donations of puzzles, games, key chains, stuffed animals. Items can be dropped off in the front office for Mr. Helman.

Parents – The choice is yours! You can decide whether your child has unlimited, limited, or no library and book fair access for independent reading. This can be done through the Parent Portal in Focus. Please see the attached PDF for more information on these access levels.

CLINIC PROCEDURES

Due to the recent passage of Florida Statue 1014.06 (Parents Bill of Rights - Parental Consent for Health Care Services); Parents must now provide affirmative consent for schools to provide health care services to students. This means that a service we routinely provided in the past such as rendering ice packs, band aids, or taking a student’s temperature can no longer take place on the school campus without parental consent on file. The district will require parent/guardian consent to allow for the services traditionally provided by school nurses/clinic assistants, including care and treatment for general health services which may include but is not limited to band aids, ice packs, wound coverings, anti-itch cream, etc.

PLEASE NOTE: Until the school receives the parent/guardian consent via portal selection/paper Opt-In Form; nurses, clinic assistant/s and other school personnel cannot provide band-aids, ice packs, or additional services on campus for minor injuries or complaints. Consent must be verified before any treatment is provided.

If the school does not have consent on file, parents will be notified that their child came to the clinic requiring care with the expectation that they pick up their child if he/she appears sick, unwell, or needs first aid care.

Please keep in mind the school staff still reserves the right to call 911 and provide emergency care in the event of a serious accident, injury, or illness regardless of if we have parent/guardian consent on file per School Board Policy.

Please be aware that additional consent and/or doctor’s orders are still required for medication administration and medical procedures.

Student ID's are required to be visible each day. Students who ride a bus are required to scan their ID on and off the bus each day. If a student loses their ID, they can obtain a new one at lunch each day. Students will be provided 1 free replacement ID card.

The PTSO is a parent organization that helps support our school by planning events, fundraising, and helping us build a stronger community.

Students are expected to complete 8 activities in Aleks per week to help them improve their Math skills. If a student is below grade level, students should complete more than 8 activities per week.

Students should be completing 2 article per week in Achieve 3000. This will help improve their reading abilities.

Thank you car riders and parents! We appreciate how smoothly car riders is going the last few weeks.

Student drop-off begins no earlier than 9:00 am in the car-rider loop. Students are prohibited from being on campus before this time. The school does not have staff on duty until 9:00 am. Walkers are also not permitted to come around the gate until we open at 9:00 am. The YMCA provides before school care for parents that need it for a small fee. Any students on campus before arrival time need to register with the YMCA. Feel free to apply online through our website or inquire in the front office between 7:30 and 8:50 am daily.

Exiting Horizon: The left lane is for left turns and straight, and the right lane is right turn only. Please also be aware of the crossing guards. The county is working on installing a light at our intersection. In the meantime, please be patient and cautious!

• Students should bring their laptop each day to school fully charged.
• If a student has a technology issue, they will be able to see a tech during their lunch
• If a student loses or breaks their laptop, they must immediately report it to the tech or a dean during lunch/ complete a student statement on how the device was broken.
• Lost chargers and damages will need to be paid through myschoolbucks.com

If your child does not have a computer yet, please complete the Borrower Form. Borrower forms must be completed by a parent or guardian in order to check out a laptop to students and they can be found on the parent portal account or your child can get a paper copy during lunches. We have distributed to over 95% of our population and continue to hand out more each day. Laptop distribution will resume on Tuesday 9/3 to students who have turned in the borrower form.

If you have not returned your laptop from last year (Horizon or another school) you will not be assigned another laptop. Please bring in the old laptop so we can update the software.

Insurance for laptops can be purchased for $31.95. Please see the attached flyer or scan the QR code to purchase the insurance.
