From the Principal's Desk
What a great start to our school year! Routines have been established and classes are beginning to dive into their curriculum and new learning. First grade finished their iready fall assessments and Kindergarten will begin theirs the week of Sept. 23rd. These assessments are important because they measure where our students' math and reading levels are at the beginning of the year. Then we retest in the winter and spring to see how much we've grown!
I hope to see all of our parents at our school Curriculum night next Wednesday 9/18 at 5:30pm. The evening is geared toward adults with a lot of information and is designed for the whole hour. See the flyer below for details.
And a few September reminders:
1) The 2024-2025 Family and Student Handbook is available in your child’s Skyward account. Each family is asked to sign the acknowledgment form in Skyward. Please do that at your earliest convenience.
2) We are still missing quite a few required health forms from students. These documents must be turned in before October 15th otherwise state law requires us to exclude those students until documentation can be provided. Please see the reminder from Nurse Olsen below and she has sent out reminders to families with missing documentation. If you have a question please call the office.
3) Absences/Tardies - we have actually had an INCREASE in tardy students over the past two weeks. Please remember instruction begins at 7:50am. That is when students should be in class ready to learn. We have students missing some critical academic time in the mornings in addition to inaccurate lunch counts. We want to make sure we have enough lunches so it is important to be on time for us to send in the right number during those morning routines. If you need assistance with getting to school on time, please reach out so we can work together!
4) Today was Safety Day! All students did an excellent job practicing our safety drills. We are required to repeat a lockdown drill with police presence and an evacuation (fire) drill with the fire department each year as well. It is important for those city departments to practice too! Our lockdown drill with Elmhurst PD will be next Thursday 9/19 and our fire drill with Elmhurst FD will be 10/3, for your reference.
5) Pokemon Cards- My children love pokemon cards too! Unfortunately, they become a big distraction at school and we end up with upset friends when cards get lost or traded. Please keep pokemon cards AT HOME. And join us for our FTC Pokemon nights to share and trade cards! Our next Pokemon Night is 11/11.
I hope everyone has a safe and happy weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Scanlan

Lunch Balances
Overdue Breakfast/ Lunch Balances
Don't forget to check and pay any overdue lunch balances. You can check balances and pay on your parent Skyward account. You can also send cash or check payment to school with your child in a marked envelope with name and what payment is for. The office will then account for the cash or check payment on your student's Skyward.
Late Arrivals
Attention Parents - School doors open at 7:40 am. There is no staff supervision prior to this time. Classes start at 7:50 am.
Students who come in late find it harder to establish a good morning routine at school. Teachers are beginning instruction and a late student is missing out. Thank you for your assistance in making sure your students arrive to school on time!

I Love U Guys ❤️
Standard Response Protocol
Salt Creek District 48 has adopted an emergency protocol response from the I Love U Guys Foundation. This is a program that has been adopted by many of the schools within DuPage County. Over the summer, the administrative team attended training on the protocol and is passing along the training to all staff. We also want to make families aware of the five different protocols so you can be familiar with the language you may hear your child or the school use.
Payments & Fees
A New Way to Pay Fees in Skyward
In your parent portal in skyward, click on the fee payment tile, then in the far right hand top corner click on the "make online payments" button. This will take you to Revtrak. Make sure to sign up before you try to make payment. Once you can sign in, click the Make a Payment button in the middle of the page. This new service will streamline the payments so you can make a payment or set up recurring payments. This is directly connected to Skyward so you see the money immediately go to your child's account. If you have any questions please email or call your school office.
Preschool Payments: Once in Revtrak you will see in the upper right area an arrow next to SHOP. Click the arrow and pick Preschool in order for you to complete your payment. If you have any questions please email or call the Salt Creek school office.
