English Language Arts
This week the students demonstrated their knowledge of the myth of Icarus through a test. Then, they explored the myth further through the poem “Icarus’s Flight”. The poem presented a different point of view about Icarus’ decision.
Next week we will return to prose with the short story “Rogue Wave”.

ESOL
We have begun our paragraph writing using the structure of a topic sentence, details 1,2,3, and closing sentence to write a simple paragraph. Students are doing very well with their writing. We will continue with this structure adding on more paragraphs leading into writing an essay.

Math
7th grade math students concluded module 3 (solving problems involving the addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of integers). The kids took the module 3 test on Thursday. Grades are posted in Skyward. On Friday, we began solving problems involving rational numbers (positive and negative fractions and decimals). We'll continue this work next week. Have a great weekend!
Mr. Ragan
Science
This week in Science, we learned about the process of cell division. Students learned about the four purposes of cell division and created a mini-book to demonstrate their knowledge. Next week we will begin learning about how plant cells create their own food through photosynthesis.

Social Studies
Next week we will be finishing Lesson-1 Topic -3 Climates and Ecosystems. The topics that will be covered are Air Circulation and Precipitation, Types of Climate and Biomes and Ecosystems. I hope you have a safe and healthy weekend.
Mrs. Johnson
The students have wrapped up their lesson on Our Planet, Earth, and are now studying Climates and Ecosystems! Students were given their study guides on Friday (9/20) and will take the test a week from Friday, the 27th. Students will study ecosystems, the water cycle, weather, and various climates. While the study guide is not for a grade, I strongly recommend encouraging students to complete it as it will help them greatly on the test! Have a wonderful weekend, and please reach out if you have any questions!

AVID
This week we started our Goals unit. Students learned about the steps necessary to achieve their goals as AVID students. Students identified ways in which AVID can help them achieve their goals. Students also identified areas that need attention and will develop goals to address those areas. They will learn how to monitor their progress toward their goals and identify reasons why progress is or isn't being made.

Drama 7
Now that all performers have received feedback on their presentations, we began adding spotlights to the scenes. Next week we will add microphones and the stage managers will work with the curtain. All of this is leading up to some great presentations.

Energy and the Environment
Students are researching a career in engineering and presenting the information in an informative brochure. In our next unit, students will learn about their own energy consumption and how it will impact the environment over the next 5-10 years.
Mrs. Rolf
Magic of Electrons
Students will distinguish between the functions and operations of fixed resistors, variable resistors, and photo resistors. They will then construct, and test physical electrical circuits based upon circuit diagrams. They will integrate DC sources, lamps, switches, diodes, light emitting diodes, resistors, and capacitors into electrical circuits to achieve specific functions. And finally they will determine the value of a fixed resistor based upon the color codes on those resistors.
Mrs. Bargmann
Medical Detectives
Students have enjoyed using the disease dictionary this week to try their hand at diagnosing patients. Ask your son/daughter about their experience as a medical professional! Have a wonderful weekend!

Physical Education
All is well in PE! Mr. Amon/Mrs. Dreiling’s classes have finished their volleyball units. Mr. Turner’s classes have finished frisbee. This next week, Amon/Turner will be playing Ultimate Frisbee and Mr. Turner’s classes beach volleyball. All students in Sports Conditioning have been doing great with their workouts. Soon we will be calculating our Target Heart Rates. Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have for your student!
*We will look to go outside as much as possible for PE (weather permitting). Please help us in reminding our students to bring water bottles and tennis shoes every day they have PE.

Spanish
7th Grade Spanish is working through Part 2 of the Guapo Trilogy with La Confesión de Víctor. Nuggets 1-8 are due on 9/25 with a deadline of 9/27 at 3:00PM. We have a few speaking quizzes over the next couple of weeks: alphabet, 0-31, days of the week, months of the year, and seasons. We will also have a written quiz over colors. Each of these topics has video reviews in our Google Classroom. These students are amazing!
