News and Events You Can Use
Counseling Week
Our counselors are part of the backbone of a successful school. We celebrated them this week during National School Counseling Week. Our counselors do academic guidance, social-emotional support, small group counseling, 504 plans, and crisis intervention. This week as well, Riverwood counselors visited 8th grade classes to help with elective course selections (pictured). We love our counselors!
Panther Pride
Congratulations to the Lady Panthers for winning the 2022-2023 MAAC Division I championship last Thursday, Feb. 2! The Panthers defeated The Globe Academy 47-42 in overtime. In the Finals, leading scorers May Weis (19 pts) Laila Walker (16 pts) and Kendall Saunders (8 pts) along with excellent defense play from Kennedy Cobb, Sierra Joelson, and Leah Weis excelled the Panthers to victory.
Japanese Rolls
Japanese 8th graders finished their recent unit with making their own 恵方巻, a special roll to celebrate Setsubun which is the division between winter and spring. The good luck roll must have 7 ingredients. Students chose their own ingredients and named their 恵方巻.

The letter is linked below in English and Spanish for your convenience. If you wish to opt-out your child from the screening process, you must return the letter to your child’s homeroom teacher by Feb. 14. Otherwise no action is necessary!

Valentine’s Day Treat Message
As we approach Valentine’s Day, it is important to ensure that all homemade candy, desserts, baked goods, or other edible items are not to be sold or distributed during school hours. Valentine’s Treats should stay home to be enjoyed at home! Please know that taking this measure will help us maintain a safe environment for all students with allergies, etc. You can help us protect your student(s) by requesting that they not eat anything given to them by another person, anything that they have not brought from your home or anything not in its original sealed package. Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping all of our students safe at school!
RCMS Wants SGC Candidates
The window for parents and teachers to declare candidacy for their school’s School Governance Council (SGC) opened on February 1, 2023. During this time, individuals interested in serving a 2-year term (July 1, 2023 – June 30, 2025) will need to complete a Candidate Declaration Form which will be available on the Charter System Website. The declaration window will close on March 24, 2023. Interested parents and teachers can click here to access requirements for candidacy. Voting will take place in late March with additional information to come about the process soon. See the SY2023 SGC Elections Guide for more information and council resources related to SGC Elections. The Governance Team is currently working to develop additional elections materials for schools including posters, handouts, lawn signs, etc. These materials will be sent out near the end of the month and should arrive at schools in early February for your teams to use to promote elections.
