Hawk Hub
August 5th, 2024
***Due to anticipated school traffic in the area, ALL students are encouraged
to utilize Katy ISD bus transportation. All students who live in NJH
attendance zone are eligible for bus transportation. See SMART TAG info below**
We are so excited to FINALLY welcome students into our beautiful building!
The first few weeks of school will be spent on emphasizing campus procedures and the "Nelson Way" of navigating our building. We ask that our community remains patient through this process. Please be sure to read this document and familiarize yourself with our Parent Reference Guide. You will find links to everything you need to know about campus procedures. We can't wait to see everyone on August 14, 2024. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. Students will report to each holding area as follows:
- Breakfast - any student who needs breakfast will report to the cafeteria and sit in the designated breakfast area. Breakfast lines close at 8:50 a.m. so that students have enough time to get to class. The ONLY exception to the 8:50 a.m. cut off time would be students who arrive to campus on a late bus.
- 6th graders - will report to the learning stairs as they arrive. Follow the direction of the staff members.
- 7th graders - will report to the competition gym and fill in the bleachers. 7th grade bus riders who are not eating breakfast may also enter through the outside gym doors. Staff members will direct students.
- 8th graders - will report to the cafeteria and fill in the tables that are not designated as breakfast tables. Staff members will dismiss all students.
Finally, the "Hawk Hub" (this newsletter) will be sent out each week as our primary information source to our parents/guardians. Please be on the lookout for this newsletter as it will be emailed, posted on social media, and attached to our website. FLY FIERCE!

Navigating Nelson
Due to potential traffic concerns around the YES, NJH, and FHS complex,
it is highly recommended that students utilize bus transportation.
Parents of Bus Riders: If your student is a bus rider, look for the white route number on the side of the bus when tracking their bus this school year! And make sure to download the Smart tag™ app from your mobile Google Play Store or Apple App Store to find your bus route information. The Smart Tag app allows parents to set their preferred notifications, including when their child’s bus is expected to arrive. You can also see when and where your student boards and exits the bus.
Car Arrival and Dismissal Process
Car riders should pull into the drive in the right lane and utilize BOTH lanes.
Lanes will merge into 1 lane at the front of the school once the doors open.
