Principal's Note
Hello Hidden River Families!
We have had an amazing first two weeks with your students! Routines, rituals and building expectations have been taught and the building has a positive rhythm! Arrival and Dismissal are going well - a HUGE THANK YOU to all families who are dropping off and picking up students on Blair Ave.
A few reminders we need your assistance with reinforcing:
1. Students should carry a binder that holds their necessary school materials and iPad during the day. Backpacks, purses, bags and crossbody bags are to be stored in lockers. Please check in with your student to ensure they have a binder. We are able to provide students with a binder if needed.
2. Students have a four-minute passing time to visit restrooms, lockers and get to class. We do not provide passes the first 10 minutes and the last 10 minutes of class. Encourage your student to use their passing time wisely.
I am very appreciative of the communication from families with questions or concerns. I am always happy to help problem solve for the academic success of our students.
Sincerely,
Principal Vibar

Pre-Algebra with Ms. Skaja
Mathematicians have been collaborating in the classroom to develop norms through number games and races! Attached you will see the syllabus for the school year. Mathematics is the study of patterns; which starts with noticing, describing what we see, and generalizing ideas. Monday 9/16 we will start our beginning of the year assessments. Please talk to your scholar about taking this pretest seriously as it helps indicate a baseline, measure growth, and ensure correct placement for math classes.
Looking forward to growing together!
Ms. Skaja

Every Meal
Healthy eating is so important for children. At Hidden River, we work hard to ensure students receive a healthy breakfast and lunch each day to support their developing brains and bodies. Research shows that children who eat regular, nutritious meals are more likely to attend school and be engaged in learning. We are excited to partner with Every Meal to offer a free weekend meal program to all our students.
Every Meal is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to fight child hunger through community and school partnerships.
- Free for all families
- No qualifications required
- Students enrolled in the program will receive a 4-5 pound bag of nutritious, nonperishable food each week
- Every Meal does not collect information from families; privacy is protected
- Families may choose to participate in the program anytime throughout the school year
- Families may choose from a variety of different weekend food bag options
If you are interested in enrolling - please fill out this form. If you have any questions, please contact our School Social Worker at anne.kent@spps.org.

Literacy Corner
As students begin the school year, they are learning who they are, the purpose and power of their ideas and words, and who they are as readers, writers, and thinkers (all while getting to know teachers, where to eat, how to open their locker, who are good friends and more!) Students will be reading across their school day and beyond. To support your child in choosing books that are just right for them, you can use these questions to get to know your child better as a reader.
