SPEECH NATIONAL RESULTS
Ten members of the Irondale Speech Team qualified for the National Individual Tournament of Champions (NIETOC) in Kansas City over the weekend. Earning recognition for advancing to final rounds were Ronorey Kin Buyuccan, Bre Hamman, Landon Blanck, and Boyana Nikolova. Congratulations to the team!
LACROSSE RESULTS
The Knights ended their 2025 regular season this week with a pair of disappointing losses, the first last Saturday afternoon in Duluth, and the second, Tuesday night at home against #6 Minnetonka. The latter being expected with a top ten team, the former more frustrating than disappointing. The Knights had to shake off a 6 a.m. wake up call for the trip north on Saturday along with the windy gails of a Duluth spring. After Kingston Vang (11) opened the scoring for Irondale, Duluth came back with the next 3 and went into halftime with a 5-3 lead having dominated possession in the first half while the Knights struggled with turnovers. Duluth extended that lead to 6-3 early in the 3rd before Irondale came alive with three unanswered goals in less the two minutes to tie the game at 6. It would go back and forth from there with Freddie Bankston (12) giving the Knights the lead at 9-8 with 3:24 left to play. This was unfortunately the last lead Irondale would have as the Wolfpack came back to tie the game with just seconds remaining to send it to overtime. In overtime both teams had offensive chances, but only Duluth was able to cash in for a 10-9 overtime win.
Frustration on Saturday turned into disappointment on Tuesday as 6th ranked Minnetonka came
in and dominated from start to finish. The Skippers, coming out of the brutal Lake conference
with #1 Edina and two others, Eden Prairie and Wayzata, ranked in the top ten, blew through
the Knights in the first quarter building an insurmountable 9-0 lead after one. The game
settled down for the next three but the result didn’t change as Minnetonka was just too much for
Irondale and downed the Knights 17-3. The team will now spend a week in practice and await
their assigned opponent for the first round of the Section 4 playoffs next week.
