5th Grade ELA
Students have been working hard in both reading and writing. They have had fun analyzing and performing dramas in reading. Students have been applying fiction skills to drama such as character development, plot, and theme.
In writing, students have been working hard on their literary essay. They have developed a claim and reasons for their essay, and are now working on finding supportive evidence to further explain their claim. Through the month of December, students will be wrapping up drama and completing their literary essay, and then moving on to poetry in both reading and writing. Keep up the great work Timberwolves!
5th Grade Math
5th Advanced Math
This last month of the year, advanced math will wrap up multiplying and dividing fractions. We will take a common assessment that will cover our order of operations unit and multiplying and dividing fractions unit. We will begin our next unit, Geometry, which will extend into January. We will begin with classifying polygons, quadrilaterals and triangles.
Levels math is currently working on unit 5, which is expressions. Students will learn the meaning of parenthesis and how to simplify an expression using the order of operation (Gema).
5th Grade Science and Social Studies
Social Studies: This month in social studies, students will be doing a cereal box research project. They will get to research a president and find out all they can about them.
Science: this month in Science, students will be going over the difference between weather and climate. They will also learn about the different types of soil. They will go over water retention and plant growth. The students will take Common Assessment 3 this Friday, December 8th.
6th Grade English Language Arts
Happy December! Wow, that was fast! We are heading into a busy month and our classes are so excited.
In Reading, we are conquering our Drama unit. We have worked hard to understand how the specific elements of a drama contribute to our comprehension. We have some very talented actors and actresses for sure! We have loved the performances. Up next is our Poetry unit and we love the challenge that poetry poses. Students will utilize a variety of important skills like inferencing and deep analysis with text support. We look forward to the challenge!
In Writing, we have just finished our Revision unit. This was a new unit to our grade and we really saw our students become more analytical authors. We looked back at our writing with new lenses and learned how to change, add and delete with purpose and focus. As a result, our writing has become more cohesive. In addition to our reading poetry unit our students will soon become poets themselves. Our next writing unit is poetry and we are excited about the exciting poems our students will create.
From our 6th grade ELA team, we wish you and your family a beautiful holiday season!
6th Grade Math
General education Math will begin our unit on expression. Students will build on their knowledge of order of operations from 5th grade and be introduced to exponents. They will also continue to build on their understanding of prime and composite numbers, as well as other parts of an expression. The expressions unit will end on December 12 with a unit assessment.
Advanced Math students have come to an end of their Expressions Unit and will be testing on Friday, December 8th. Please help your child prepare by ensuring they complete the Unit Review posted in Canvas. In addition, you will find a variety of other games and/or practice pages in their Canvas course. We have already begun our next unit: Equations and Inequalities. We will work on Equations through the end of the semester, then pick back up in January with Inequalities. Your children are learning many new skills! Check in with them and ask how they are doing. Happy Holidays from the Advanced Math Team!
6th Grade Science and Social Studies
In 6th grade Science we are excited to explore energy transformations, including convection, conduction and radiation.
In Social Studies we will study the geography, history and culture of Europe.

Rainy Day/Inclement Weather Dismissal Procedures
Rainy/Cold Day Dismissal
If your student is a walker/biker they will be expected to walk or ride their bike on rainy days, unless you and your child have an alternate plan in place. If you choose for your child to be a car-rider on rainy days it is not necessary to complete a transportation change form.
In the case of severe weather (thunderstorms, lightening, blizzard) we may hold walkers/bikers until we feel it is safe for them to walk or ride home. If that does occur we will contact the parent to inform them of the delay. Bus transportation will run as scheduled.
