Heights Happenings
Eastern Heights Elementary School, February 2023
Dear Eastern Heights Elementary Families,
As the winter weather is here, we have an increase of students being picked up and dropped off by car, causing an increase in traffic immediately before and after school. We have a lot of traffic handling student drop-off and pick-up in a short window of time. It is important for everyone to cooperate and follow the established procedures to help make these times safe and smooth for our students and the drivers in the area. I would like to thank those of you who cooperate and follow the procedures daily! I know the weather has made it more challenging, but It is greatly appreciated!!!
Here's a few reminders for what is expected during arrival and dismissal:
- Cars should only drive one way around the school.
- Students may be loaded or unloaded in the lane next to the curb only.
- Outside lane is for SLOWLY exit/passing.
- Please have your car tag visible during pick-up, as this helps with getting your child to your car quickly. If you need a new tag, please contact your child's teacher.
- Prospect and Eastern Heights: Exit Only for all traffic. Cars should NOT enter at this point.
- Prospect and Cornell is Car Rider ENTER AND EXIT.
I’m sure, regardless of the groundhog, we have another couple of months of winter weather ahead of us. Our custodial staff works hard to keep our walkways clear of snow and ice. However, there are always times where we simply can’t keep up when precipitation is falling. Please remind your child(ren) of the importance of being careful when they are walking on snow and ice. I know many of our students walk to and from school, and don’t always have clear sidewalks to walk on in the neighborhood, so it’s important for them to pay attention to where they are walking.
We have our spring conferences coming up on Thursday, February 23rd from 3:30-7:00. You may sign up for a conference with your child's teacher HERE.
Finally, I’d like to remind parents to continue to check their child’s progress on PowerSchool. If you need your login or password information, please contact Ms. Hyder in the front office. It’s important to continue to watch your child’s grades so you are aware of any areas to focus on at home or areas to celebrate with your child. In our upper grades (3-4), it is important to know that grade categories are sometimes weighted. The first person to call the office and say "let it snow! let it snow! let it snow!" will win a prize! By establishing categories (i.e., participation, in-class work, quizzes, tests, final project, etc.) and assigning percentages to those categories, the instructor can predetermine how much of the student’s final grade will come from each category. If you have questions regarding your child’s classes and how their grades are weighted, please feel free to contact the teacher or Mrs. Barwacz directly.
Thank you for your continued cooperation and devotion to our schools.
Your Partner in Education,
Mrs. Jessica C. Barwacz

Valentine's Day
Sometimes families also like to send in candy or a treat with the valentine. To be in line with our treat/celebration policy, these must be take home treats only. We encourage non-food items such as stickers, small containers of play-doh, temporary tattoos, crayons/coloring books, glow sticks, or small sealed bottles of bubbles. If you choose to send in a food item, only individually packaged food treats that can easily be sent home with students will be accepted. Food treats will not be eaten at school but will be sent home with classmates.
Cost is $16
Order deadline: April 3rd
SCHOOL STARTS AT 9:10AM, DOORS OPEN AT 8:55AM. NO STUDENTS SHOULD BE DROPPED OFF BEFORE THIS TIME, AS THERE IS NO SUPERVISION FOR STUDENTS PRIOR TO 8:55AM.
