PRESCHOOL NEWS
Preschool has been having a tree-mendous time learning all about trees! We have been learning all about what animals live in trees, what foods come from trees and how to take care of trees. We have done an apple tasting, where students tried three different color apples and chose which apple was their favorite. This week, Mrs. Davies’ class had Mr. Urban come in. He talked about the tools that he uses to take care of trees, what keeps him safe while he is working on trees and the different parts of the tree. He also discussed how to grow a strong and healthy tree by making sure it has plenty of sunlight, water and soil. We also learned about how we can tell the age of a tree by counting the rings on a stump!

THIRD GRADE NEWS
At Stillwater School, third graders are honoring Veterans Day in a special way. They are celebrating by creating beautiful American flag wreaths, using red, white, and blue colors to show their patriotism and appreciation for veterans. These wreaths will be displayed as a tribute to those who have served in the armed forces. Additionally, students are reading poems about veterans, learning more about their bravery and sacrifices. Through these activities, the third graders gain a deeper understanding of the importance of Veteran's Day and express their gratitude to the heroes who have protected and served their country.

A MESSAGE FROM THIRD GRADE
American Education Week
Next week we are excited to celebrate American Education Week here at Stillwater School! This annual event, held nationwide, is a wonderful time to honor the commitment to education that our students, staff, and families share. During this week, we recognize the importance of our school community and acknowledge the contributions of everyone who plays a role in creating a positive learning environment.
As part of our celebration, we invite families to participate in a special project. We would love for you to take a short video of your child sharing a meaningful message for a teacher, support staff member, or any other member of our Stillwater School Staff. This is a wonderful opportunity for students to express their gratitude and appreciation for the guidance, support, and inspiration they receive at school.
Once you've recorded the video, please email it directly to the teacher or staff member that your child’s message is for. Please send the videos on Monday, November 18th, so that we can kick off American Education Week with an outpouring of positivity and gratitude. Thank you for helping us make this a memorable celebration for everyone in our school community!
On Tuesday, November 19th, students are invited to dress like a teacher, and teachers are welcome to dress like a student. Have fun!
FOURTH GRADE NEWS
Fourth Grade News - Thanksgiving is a great time for reflection, and in our classroom, we are taking time to express gratitude for the things we have, the people we know, and the opportunities we’re given. We have started a "30 Days of Thankfulness” bulletin board where each student will write or draw something they are thankful for. Each day we will uncover a student's response. This will be displayed outside our classroom throughout the month as a reminder of all the good things in our lives. Enjoy this season of gratitude!

NEWS FROM MRS. PHLEGAR
It was so nice meeting our fifth grade families at parent/teacher conferences last week and seeing some familiar faces too! Fifth graders completed their unit on narrative writing in ELA, we also just finished reading our class novel Shiloh. Students became quickly invested in this heartwarming story of a boy and the unbreakable bond he forms with a dog seeking solace with a loving family. In math, students just wrapped up our chapter on multiplying multi digit numbers. Students have also been using technology to support their learning, participating in fun holiday themed centers and working collaboratively with their peers to solve problems! Students created a special message for our Veterans this week with an ordered pair picture. We thank all of our Veterans from the bottom of our hearts for their dedication to our country! We celebrate and honor them this week and always by offering them our sincerest gratitude.

Now we're kicking off football-themed lessons, as well as continuing with frisbee games for the younger students and Ultimate Frisbee for the older ones. Next, we'll dive into Thanksgiving-themed games, followed by some festive activities in December! Just a reminder to wear your sneakers on PE days!

During the holiday season, Bennys Bodega encourages families and their children to help give back-if they are able. The reverse advent calendar is a beautiful way to do this while helping our very own community! A great way to get your kids involved in this is to bring them to the store and have them shop this list! You can do it all at once or take your time filling a box. Once your box is full, you can drop it off to Benny’s Bodega on Spring Street in Newton. Your child will then be provided with a certificate of completion and their name proudly displayed in the Bodega. Should you not be able to make it to Benny’s Bodega during their regular operating hours, you can drop your completed box off at the school ATTN: Mrs. Garrigan. (Don’t worry! She will make sure you get your certificate!) Have a happy and healthy holiday season!
*this is an optional event. This is NOT a school sponsored event.
