Black History Month, envisioned by historian Carter G. Woodson, began in 1926 with a week, aiming to spotlight the overlooked achievements of African Americans. It was later expanded to a month-long celebration, officially recognized by President Gerald Ford in 1976.

This observance provides a crucial platform to acknowledge the profound impact of African Americans on various aspects of American society. It encourages reflection on both historical struggles and ongoing efforts toward equality. Embracing the month entails a commitment to understanding the complexity of African American history and contributing to a more inclusive future.

The HTHS Spring College Fair for 10th and 11th graders will be held during the school day on February 9th. We will have approximately 50 college/military representatives here to meet with students.

Teachers will help prepare students for the fair by discussing questions that can be asked, how best to navigate the event, and how to manage time.

This event is for students, but there will be future opportunities for parents to meet with college representatives. Those dates will be announced throughout the spring and next fall.

HTHS Curriculum Night will be Tuesday, February 13th. Save the date!
