MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Happy 4th of July!
Today is a special day for several reasons. We celebrate Independence Day with the rest of the nation, but it is also Dr. Peoples' birthday! Please feel free to reach out and say Happy Birthday!
Yesterday, I flew to California to take some time off this week to visit friends and loved ones in San Diego. My friend Janet, who has been battling cancer, is there, so I am taking the opportunity to visit. It is so lovely to stop and just be with people who are important to you. I encountered a fun coincidence when flying into San Diego airport. I was getting off the plane when I heard, "Hey you!" I turn and look. It is our wonderful Clinic Aid, Leah Davy-Kennedy. She was on her way to her cousin's wedding. Of course, we embraced and chatted for a few minutes before going on our way.
It reminded me that "It's a small world after all!" We are so interconnected. Connectedness is beautiful. It is sometimes complicated but, above all, rewarding. Having community is important, and sitting by the ocean this morning reminds me that my community is everything. You make up my community. My children make up my community. All our Titans make up my community. I had a little moment with coffee and the songs of the ocean to just be grateful for all the wonderful people and their importance in my life.
I hope you soak in “America the Beautiful" today. Whether by an ocean, in the mountains, or on your neighborhood street watching fireworks, I hope you have a moment to soak in the complexities and greatness of our country and our community. Enjoy the pride of being an American and the pride of being a Titan. So, celebrate today and all the emotion that comes with it!
I am thankful for you! Thank you for allowing me to serve you!
Sincerely,
AJ Smith
Principal of Elkins Pointe Middle School
