Classmates guessed the lines being represented, while group leaders explained the scene’s significance, exploring themes like character development, foreshadowing, and conflict.
This interactive approach deepened students' understanding of the play while building skills in analysis, teamwork, and public speaking.

U.S. I Classes: The Impact of Modern Medicine and Clara Barton
This week, U.S. I students explored how modern medicine helped save lives during the Civil War, despite the brutal effects of warfare and weapons like the minie ball.
Clara Barton, though not a trained nurse, revolutionized battlefield care by promoting cleanliness, proper use of medicine, and sanitation—practices still used today.
She later founded the American Red Cross, led it for nearly 25 years, and devoted her life to aiding the poor and homeless. Barton also supported women’s suffrage, created first aid kits, and documented her experiences in an autobiography.
Theatre Arts at Hoboken HS
Over the past two weeks, Hoboken High theatre students have been busy both watching and creating live performance. A group of students had the rare opportunity to attend Othello on Broadway, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Denzel Washington in what may be Washington’s final stage role. The live performance offered students a firsthand look at the acting techniques they study in class, highlighting the power of behavior and presence on stage.
Back home, the cast of the upcoming district production of Newsies hosted their annual cast dinner fundraiser. High school students organized the event, which welcomed nearly 200 guests, including K-12 cast members and their families. This tradition helps transform the cast into a tight-knit theatre family.
A special thank you to the parents, guardians, and local businesses who donated food and drinks—your support keeps Hoboken’s theatre program thriving!
