Happy Lunar New Year!
Hello Hansen Families,
Happy New Year! Wednesday, January 29th marks the first day of the year of the Snake! Lunar New Year is celebrated in various countries, including China (Chun-jie- Spring Festival), Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Korea (Seollal), Vietnam (Tết), and the Philippines (Media Noche), among others with significant Chinese populations. The origins of Lunar New Year can be traced back over 4,000 years, originating from agricultural practices and ancient myths. It is influenced by legends such as that of Nian, a mythical creature, and practices that emphasize warding off bad luck and welcoming prosperity.
Lunar New Year, celebrated by millions worldwide, is a vibrant cultural event that honors traditions, promotes family unity, and welcomes the promise of a new year. Often referred to as the Spring Festival, it marks the commencement of the lunar calendar. It is celebrated across Asia and beyond, symbolizing renewal, prosperity, and unity. To all who celebrate Lunar New Year, Happy New Year, 新年快乐, CHÚC MỪNG NĂM MỚI, 새해 복 많이 받으세요, maligayang bagong taon!
GREAT KINDNESS CHALLENGE THIS WEEK!
On Friday, our 4th graders hosted a school-wide assembly introducing the Great Kindness Challenge, helping students get excited to spread acts of kindness next week! The Great Kindness Challenge is a global nonprofit organization that is working to make our schools, communities, and world a kinder and more compassionate place for all. Our fourth grade students are leading our school in the Great Kindness Challenge and are our kindness ambassadors!
Below are pics of our 4th Graders leading their assembly Friday as well as The Great Kindness Challenge checklist which includes 50 kind acts and a 'junior' checklist that younger students can use. Students are given the challenge to complete as many kind acts as possible next week and beyond - parents, note our 'Kindness Week Spirit Wear' days, below - let's get ready to spread kindness!
Thank you,
