Fowler Wins District Battery Recycling Drive
A big thank you to everyone that participated in our battery drive this year. As a district, we continue to improve each year with an increase of 1,065 pounds over our 2023 results. This year we collected 3,332 pounds (1,511 kilograms). To put that in perspective, that is what a Toyota RAV4 weighs. We have diverted 3,332 pounds of materials away from landfills, where lead and other toxic materials eventually leak into our groundwater. Batteries in our recycling stream are also a common cause of fires. Great job everyone! Our leading schools this year were Fowler Middle School (204 pounds) and Sparks Elementary (181 pounds)!

From the Desk of Nurse Violet
Dear 6th Grade Parent/Guardian,
In preparation for 6th graders to enter 7th grade, there are 2 immunizations required by the State of Texas.
The specific 7th grade immunizations your student will need are:
Tdap – last dose must be within the last 5 years
Meningococcal Vaccine – given on or after the 11th birthday
If you have not turned in the updated shot record to school after your child’s 11th year old checkup, please do so as soon as possible. You are more than welcome to email the record to tsaiv@friscoisd.org. If your child needs those shots, please make sure to turn the record in to me as soon as that is done.
Students will not be able to view their 7th grade schedule or start school in August unless the immunization record is up to date! Thank you for your help in this matter!

Counselor's Corner
As we enter into spring and the final 9 week grading period of the school year, we encourage parents to work as a team with our staff to help our students stay focused on finishing the school year strong. We know that all of our teachers, students and families have gone above and beyond to work hard to make this a great year.
Please also make note of the important dates and activities planned during this time:
Friday, March 22, 2024 – Aim for Success student presentations. Depending on the number of parents who “opt-in” for the presentation, students will be assigned a class period in the afternoon to attend the Aim for Success student presentation in the library. Parents and students will be notified of their assigned class period the week of the program and due to space constraints, MUST attend their assigned period (which will be either during PE, Academy Connect or Flight Time).
Aim for Success is an independent, non-profit, educational organization that promotes a lifestyle of excellence by encouraging the development of self control, self respect, and self discipline. Through video presentations to our 6th graders, students are encouraged to develop strong, responsible character as they deal with sexual pressure.
Monday, April 22, 2024 (7:30-8:15)- “Fly Like a Falcon” Graduating Senior Reception – If you have an older student who is a graduating Senior, please let them know we can’t wait to have them back on campus to celebrate their future!
Team Notes
6th Grade
In 6th grade social studies, students will conclude their study of world geography and culture by continuing their journey around the world. We will be studying South Asia, East Asia, and then wrap up with some culture days in Southeast Asia and Oceania.
For science in the last nine weeks, students will continue their study of Biology! We will complete our unit on organisms and move into the interdependence that occurs within living systems and the environment. We will study the organization of organism, population, and community within an ecosystem, and learn about competitive and symbiotic relationships between organisms, including mutualism, parasitism, and commensalism.
In 6th grade ILA, students will be learning about argumentative writing. They will read various articles about technology to practice their skills. In addition, we will be reviewing reading strategies for the upcoming STAAR test in April.
Sixth grade math is focused on data analysis with stem & leaf plots, dot plots, box plots, and more! Then, we will conclude the nine weeks with reviewing the units to prepare for STAAR. Get ready for a comprehensive recap of the concepts we learned this year!
7th Grade
7th-grade students are soaring into spring! Everyone knows Pi Day is March 14th, but any true mathematician realizes Pi is not 3.14, but rather an irrational constant, which continues infinitely in decimal expansion. How many digits of Pi do you have memorized? After spring break, students will finish analyzing and comparing data in dot plots and box plots. We will then start unit 10 covering theoretical and experimental probability.
In Texas history, we are studying 20th century events in Texas such as natural disasters, contributions to the arts, and the Great Depression.
In ILA, students just finished analyzing themes in literature and writing and created their own "Theme Parks" around literary terms. Please encourage them to read every day. It makes a huge difference in not only their own speaking vocabulary, but their writing vocabulary as well.
In science class, your 7th graders just wrapped up an engaging ecology unit with hands-on labs and projects on ecosystem sustainability. Now, they're diving into taxonomy, exploring the classification of organisms.
8th Grade
Our 8th Grade Scientists are wrapping up their study of Ecology and will then move into a focus on Earth and Space Systems, including seasons, lunar phases, tides, and star life cycles. Perfect timing for our upcoming solar eclipse on April 8!
Eighth Grade Math is CIRCLING back to shapes. We are going to explore the hows and whys of volume and surface area. Then the battle begins for STAAR Wars.
Eighth grade historians are learning about the reformation movement and the impact of art and literature on the American identity. The next unit will have students discover the causes, events, and people of the Civil War.
In ILA, Unit 3 offered several opportunities for students to improve effective communication skills through reading, writing, speaking, listening, and performing! They examined persuasive techniques and applied them to their assignments. The Unit 4 Essential Question will focus on: How can I examine my own learning and take proactive steps to be successful? They will refine their research skills and participate in literature circle reading to round out our year. We can't wait to see what they do in this last marking period!
Celebrations!
Fowler Junior Citizen Bee
In early March, 15 eighth grade students competed in the Junior Citizen Bee competition. This competition is a wonderful opportunity for young people to share their knowledge of events that have shaped America’s past and present. All the students who competed did a great job, and we were able to declare Yan Song and Joseph McGibbon our Fowler Champions!!! These two students earned the right to compete in the Region 10 championship in April.
Spanish Club
We are happy to share that our first Spanish club meeting was successful! We had a great turnout and everyone was excited to start playing Pictionary and practice their Spanish language skills. The atmosphere was welcoming and everyone was eager to participate in the game. We played Pictionary in Spanish and divided the participants into groups of four based on their Spanish levels. From each group whoever won was rewarded with a pencil, an eraser, and a chocolate. It was great to see everyone having fun while also learning something new. Overall, it was a fantastic start to a great journey in learning and appreciating the Spanish language and culture.
