Grizzly All STARR
We are thrilled to announce that we have implemented a new initiative to reward students who are following or exceeding our behavior expectations. Students can now earn Grizzly Bucks for demonstrating our STARR values. These expectations were thoughtfully created by a committee of four students from each grade level, ensuring that our program truly reflects the voice of our student body.
Grizzly Bucks can be used to purchase items at the school store, and the enthusiasm among our students has been wonderful to see. They are genuinely excited and proud to receive their Grizzly Bucks, which fosters a positive school environment.

Charlton residents earn Girl Scout honor by expanding access to local trails
CHARLTON—Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts (GSSWM) has awarded Charlton residents and Girl Scouts Penny Daly, Kalin DesRoches, Molly Hanks, and Eleanor Wilson the Girl Scout Bronze Award – the highest award a Girl Scout Junior can earn. Girl Scouts who receive this award demonstrate achievements in leadership development, project planning and taking action to make a positive, sustainable impact in the community. The four girls worked with the New England District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and a team led by Park Ranger Nicole Giles (a Gold Award achieving former Girl Scout), to explore the needs of the community. They learned that there is a lack of accessible trails for those with mobility challenges, residents requiring wheelchair access, or the seeing-impaired. “We wanted to help more people access the park and experience the healing power of nature and the outdoors,” said Penny Daly, age 12. With that goal in mind, the girls set about creating an accessible trail within the park system.
The girls worked with the park rangers and local volunteers to restore and update a paved path in the Hodges Village Dam project area in Oxford, clearing brush, cutting back weeds, and working with a local landscaper to cut down dead trees. They measured the trail, painted markers for post installation, and purchased materials. Then, they installed a guidewire and a bench, so that residents of all abilities could easily navigate the path and enjoy the peaceful sounds and sights of nature.
Student Dismissal Procedures
We kindly request your support in reinforcing our school's dismissal procedures. Students are not permitted to self-dismiss by texting or calling home directly to arrange for pick-up. If your child is feeling unwell or needs to leave school early, they should follow our established protocol by visiting the school nurse or office, who will then contact you if dismissal is necessary.
Thank you for helping us ensure the safety and accountability of all students. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to the school office.
Nurse's Notes
7th grade physicals: All 7th grade students need to provide a copy of their physical to the school nurse in accordance with the Massachusetts 105 CMR 200.100.
SPORTS PHYSICALS: If your student plays sports, a physical must be provided each year in order for your student to even try out for the sport.
Please note: Physicals are only acceptable for 13 months from the date on the physical form. After that time, a new physical must be submitted to the School Nurse, or your student will not be allowed to play, as their physical has expired.
Physicals can be emailed to Rgoetz@dcrsd.org , faxed to 508.248.1418, uploaded to final forms or sent in with students.
