K8 Community Memo
January 13, 2025
Dear K8 Families,
Happy New Year! I hope 2025 is off to a fantastic start for each of you and that you’re finding success in maintaining your goals and commitments for the year ahead.
As we step into this new year, I am reminded of the closeness and connection that make our community so special. The friendships and relationships we share—with staff, students, and community members—are the foundation of our strength. It is through these connections that we continue to build a stronger school and a more vibrant community.
Our school truly serves as a hub for our community, bringing people together across generations. Whether it’s young athletes practicing or older adults enjoying pickleball, our facility is alive with activity and shared purpose. I deeply value the partnerships we have with organizations like Rural Resources, the WSU School of Medicine, local churches, and the Spokane Tribe of Indians, just to name a few.
Together, we are creating a brighter future for our students and enriching our entire community.
I am excited for all the great things we will accomplish together this year. Thank you for being such an integral part of this journey. Let’s make 2025 a year to remember!
With gratitude,
Mr. Joachim
Thank you, Jeff Canfield, Mike Moehnke, John Axtell, John Everly, and Lenett James, for your unwavering dedication and support to the students and staff of the Mary Walker School District. Your leadership and commitment play a vital role in fostering a thriving school community, and we are deeply grateful for all you do.
The Mary Walker School District is excited to announce the upcoming EP&O Levy Renewal Election on February 11, 2025. This is not a new tax but a renewal of the levy that has been essential in supporting our schools and students. For years, our EP&O levy has helped fund programs and services not fully covered by state funding, ensuring every student in our district has the tools, resources, and opportunities they need to succeed.
If approved, this levy renewal will provide funding over the next four years to support vital programs, such as:
Smaller class sizes, additional teachers, and classified positions
Special Education Services
Student Transportation
Athletics, Arts, and Extracurricular Activities
Technology upgrades and classroom supplies
Here’s what the renewal will raise to support our students:
$627,243 in 2025 for collection in 2026
$674,287 in 2026 for collection in 2027
$724,858 in 2027 for collection in 2028
$779,223 in 2028 for collection in 2029
This renewal ensures we can continue offering programs and services that make a difference in the lives of our students and our community. Together, we can show that every student matters and every future counts!
If you’re not yet registered to vote, there’s still time to make your voice heard! Visit Register to Vote to register today.
Mark your calendars for February 11, 2025, and let’s renew our commitment to the success of all Mary Walker students. Thank you for supporting our schools!
