Welcome Back to School!
Let's Get Rolling, 2024 - 2025!
Dear Jefferson Elementary School Community,
Dear Jefferson Elementary School community,
I am thrilled to officially introduce myself as your new principal, stepping into this role after serving as your assistant principal for the past three years. I hope this message finds you enjoying the rejuvenating days of summer and that you and your children are looking forward to beginning a wonderful school year together in August. You have my assurance that I share in this school community’s commitment to caring for your children each and every day while providing them a high-quality learning environment.
I am grateful for the opportunity to continue serving this wonderful community in this expanded capacity. It has been an honor to witness firsthand the dedication and hard work of our teachers, staff, and parents, and I am inspired by the dedication and enthusiasm of our students. It is my belief that every child can excel and that the partnership between home and school builds confidence in students to use their powers to shape their future and the future of our community. Together, we will build upon our strong foundation and continue to strive for excellence in all areas of our school.
Please know that my door is always open to you. Feel free to email, call, or stop by anytime. I heartily welcome your conversation and positive input throughout this year. Let us always keep our students the primary focus of our work. I look forward to celebrating our collective successes during the 2024-25 school year!
Warmly,
Mrs. Ziemer
Meet Your New Assistant Principal:
Welcome Mrs. Kendra Monroe Smith!
Dear Jefferson Elementary School Families,
I am excited to introduce myself as your new assistant principal. For the past 14 years, I have been a teacher and assistant principal at Mount Vernon High School, where I dedicated myself to creating a supportive and enriching learning environment for all students. I am deeply committed to continuing this work here at Jefferson, a place that holds special significance for me, as I attended this school as a child. I fondly remember my own experiences and the impact it had on me which has inspired my journey in education.
I have learned and experienced so much during my time in the Mount Vernon School District, and I am eager to bring my experiences to Jefferson. My focus will be on embracing the academic and social-emotional needs of our elementary children, ensuring that each student feels supported and encouraged to reach their full potential. I look forward to working closely with the Jefferson community to create a positive and nurturing environment for all our students.

Impact on Future Success: Consistent attendance is a strong predictor of academic achievement and future opportunities.
Building Resilience: Regular attendance teaches your child the value of perseverance and responsibility—essential skills for success in life.
Stronger Friendships: Daily presence helps your child develop and sustain friendships, which are crucial for emotional and social development.
Healthy Routine: Attending school every day establishes a stable routine, promoting better mental and physical health.

Helpful Pro Tip!
Ah, back to school shopping....all those lunchboxes, coats, and backpacks. Now is the time to write your child's name in everything! If an item lands in Lost and Found it will likely make it's way back to your child. We do check for names and make an effort to return things to their rightful owner. Please help us keep our Lost and Found to a minimum.
District Update
Updated Volunteer Information -
We are pleased to share with you that the district has new software to process volunteer applications. We hope this will improve your application experience. Remember that your clearance is good for two years so if you applied during the 2022-23 or 2023-24 school year, you are still approved. It can take up to two weeks to process requests so don't wait, submit them early. We value your volunteer interest and support. Stay tuned, more information coming.
