SMS Weekly Update
May 3, 2024
Life at SMS
This week, SMS celebrates our Pentagames Team, The Builders Club and Archer Industries Team.
The SMS Pentagames Team competed in Salem last Friday and took 3rd place overall! Coaches, Heather Grimm and Elizabeth Strausbaugh would like to congratulate all those students who participated in Pentagames this year as well as the families taking part in this great opportunity.
Pentagames is a five-event math contest for 7th and 8th-grade students that consists of Math Tac Toe, 35-minus, CR2 (Compare, Revise, Revise), Solve that Problem, and the Math Relay.
The 7th-grade team (Anna H, Winnie P, and Will S) placed 1st overall!
The 8th-grade team (Hayden C, Krista L, and Alex X) placed 3rd.
Open team member: Matthew L.
Individually, Anna H placed 3rd and Winnie P placed 5th.
The Builders Club of SMS successfully organized, sorted, and delivered over twenty care packages to Portland's Blanchet House, a nonprofit offering food, clothing, and life-saving shelter and residential programs for people experiencing homelessness. Thank you to students in Mrs. Pavlicek, Mrs. Clyde and Mrs. Marstellar’s first period classes for their generous donations of hygiene supplies as well as the Kiwanis Club of Tigard for their contributions. It was amazing to see service and leadership in action here at SMS. If your student is interested in participating in Builders Club, please contact Amy Christie at achristie@sherwood.k12.or.us. New members are always welcome at our meetings, which take place on the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of each month, after school in Room W27.
Archer Industries is a leading Research and Development facility housed in a classroom within Sherwood Middle School. In addition to investing in the future of our employees, this team creates top-tier products designed at SMS using a laser cutter, vinyl cutter, and 3D printer. Archer Industries also offers several entrepreneurial elective courses: How to Code Almost Anything, How to Make Almost Anything, and How to Become a Millionaire.
Dear Archers,

An email was sent to all 8th grade parents last week about name preferences on Promotion certificates. If you did not receive that email, please reach out to Allison Kopp, 503-825-5520 or email her at akopp@sherwood.k12.or.us.
Order Your Yearbook Today!
Sherwood Middle School PSO Facebook page has current info for parents regarding yearbook, reminders & activities. Please subscribe.
We could really use more photos of 6th graders. Girls sports and 6th grade candid's. Group shots are great - especially if all the kids are from SMS. We could also use more track/lacrosse/spring sports/activities in general.
Please see the flyer below for details on ordering your yearbook.
If you have ordered, please login to ensure you selected your students flight time teacher.
Celebrate SMS Staff
Has a SMS staff member gone above and beyond for you or your student? We would love to hear about your experience and celebrate that staff member. You are invited to nominate any staff member in the building to be recognized using the super quick form linked here.
New App for Student Transportation: My Ride K-12
This spring, the Ride 360 app that our district uses to provide families with student transportation information will be replaced by a new app called My Ride K-12. This new app can be downloaded now in the Apple and Android app stores at the links below.
The Ride360 app will be discontinued during the month of May. In order to continue receiving up-to-date information about your student's bus transportation, you will need to download the My Ride K-12 app as soon as possible.
Once you have downloaded the new My Ride K-12 app, you will use your existing Ride360 log-in credentials to access the new app. No further sign-up is needed - all of your student's information, including route, will automatically transfer over to the new app!
For questions or assistance with the new My Ride K-12 app, please contact our Transportation Department at 503-825-5900 or by email at transport@sherwood.k12.or.us
