Dare to Dream
“Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure, than to take rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, because they live in the gray twilight that knows neither victory nor defeat." - Theodore Roosevelt
Theodore Roosevelt is one of my favorite leaders. I believe he was a great dreamer, visionary, and realist. He understood that if you are going to accomplish anything in life worth remembering it will come at a great cost, mentally, physically, relationally, and spiritually. He knew that greatness requires growth and growth requires tearing down and rebuilding (of yourself and your organization). If you have lead people toward a large vision or goal you understand that this process in not easy, not linear or not for the faint of heart, but it is an incredible process that you will likely remember for the rest of your life.
The way I think about this concept is that if you dare to do something great you must understand that your vision or goal needs to be viewed as a masterpiece and you are the painter. The more you paint the clearer the picture becomes but the picture never comes into full focus. As you continue to add lines and color, other lines and color begin to fade. If you quit painting, the masterpiece fades aways in the same way your dreams will if you are not willing to put thoughts in to action.
“Never throughout history has a man who lived a life of ease left a name worth remembering.”
