Staff Spotlight
.
Poverty Simulation
During our recent Superintendent Conference Day, our entire staff participated in a powerful poverty simulation led by Amey Rusack from Pro Action. This experience provided our team—ranging from transportation and cafeteria staff to teachers and administrators—with a deeper understanding and greater empathy for the challenges many families face daily.
Through this simulation, staff members worked in family units, navigating real-life scenarios that families in poverty encounter, such as:
• Struggling to keep the lights on while ensuring their children are fed and cared for.
• Balancing the demands of work, daycare, and schoolwork while managing limited resources.
• Navigating social services and exploring available community resources to make ends meet.
• Facing daily concerns about reliable transportation and access to healthcare.
This immersive experience was designed to help our staff better understand the complexities that impact student learning and family well-being. By fostering empathy and awareness, we are strengthening our commitment to meeting the diverse needs of all our students and families.
Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting our school community.
