The Elkster
November 11, 2024
Greetings EES Families,
Welcome to the second full week in November. We hope that you had a very relaxing and enjoyable weekend. There are several important updates that we would like to remind you of regarding conferences and American Education Week.
Last Thursday evening, the EES Math Committee had a wonderful Math Night for families. Students and families engaged with Math activities that encouraged critical thinking, problem solving, and strategy. Thank you to the entire Math Committee and all of the volunteers who made that evening a great success.
American Education Week is next week, our classroom teachers have prepared activities to show off the great work that we do here at Elkridge Elementary. Below is a list of dates and times that planned activities will be taking place during the week; however, parents, families, and caregivers may come anytime throughout the week. As a reminder, parents, families, and care givers may not attend recess with their child.
We love seeing parents and caregivers come in and have lunch with their child. When having lunch with your child, please refrain from interacting with any other children. If you need assistance, please request to speak with an administrator before you attend lunch.
As a reminder, school begins for students at 9:25 AM. If your child will be late, an adult must escort the child into the office and sign them in.
Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Kelley Powell, Principal
LaShonne Wright, Assistant Principal
Jonathan Swann, Assistant Principal

November Conferences
Parent teacher conferences will be held in person on Monday, November 25th. Teachers will hold all conferences in person and parents may only attend their scheduled conferences in person. Conferences will be held virtually only on Tuesday, November 26th and Wednesday, November 27th. During this conference window you will be meeting with your child’s Language Arts teacher (Grades K-2) and AM Teacher (Grades 3-5). These conferences offer an excellent opportunity to discuss student progress, learn about their school day and address any questions you may have. If you would like to conference with a teacher of different content areas (Social Studies, Science & Health), please reach out to the teacher to schedule an alternate time.
Conferences are currently open. You can log into HCPSS Connect to view and select from the time slots provided by the teacher on the days identified above. If you do not have access to HCPSS Connect, please call the school for assistance at 410-313-5006. You will have access through Thursday, November 21th at 4:00 pm to schedule your child’s conference.
Each Related Arts teacher will have a limited number of conference times available if you have a specific concern regarding your child’s progress. In addition, each related arts teacher will provide open office hours if you have any general questions or concerns about their specific instructional area. These times can be found here.

This year's course will consist of 1 lap around the large field behind the school for Pre-k-2nd grade and 2 laps around the large field for 3rd-5th grade. Please make sure your child has a water bottle that is labeled with their name and is wearing sneakers on the day of the Turkey Trot.
Below is the time that your child will have related arts on Monday, November 25th:
5th grade - 9:25-9:55
4th grade - 9:55-10:25

Parents and families are welcome to stand in the middle of the field so that they can see the entire course. If you would like to run or walk with your child, please be sure that you meet your child's class by the blacktop at their designated start time.
If your child is in 5th grade or 1st grade and you plan to attend the Turkey Trot, please park in the upper lot near the middle school so that you do not disrupt arrival and dismissal procedures.
If you will be taking your child home prior to dismissal, please make sure you sign them out in the front office before leaving.
In the event of rain on Monday, the Turkey Trot will take place Tuesday, November 26 at the same times listed above.

General Information & Reminders
Lunchtime Visits
We thoroughly enjoy when parents come in to enjoy lunch with their child. We ask that you remember the following when visiting:
- Before entering the cafeteria, please sign in at the front office to obtain a visitors pass.
- Food may not be shared with other students in the cafeteria. Food that is brought in from outside sources (fast food lunch, cupcakes, etc. etc.) cannot be guaranteed to be allergen free. Therefore, to protect students, any food that is brought into the cafeteria may only be shared with the child you are visiting.
- When dining with your child, please sit at a table that is either empty, or that has a few students at it.
- If you choose to eat a school lunch with your child, you may not use your child's account to purchase a lunch for yourself. Adult lunches are $4.50, payable in cash (preferably exact change) at the time of purchase.
As a general reminder for our students who sit at the allergy table, it is important that the same student(s) should sit at this table everyday. If two friends are going to sit at the table with a friend who has a peanut allergy, it should be the same students. If one student brings lunch that day they will not be able to sit at the allergy/peanut table that day.
Rising Kindergarten Students
Attention Parents of Rising Kindergarteners: Don't Wait for Summer to Address Developmental Concerns!
If you have concerns about your child's development - whether it's their speech, motor skills, social skills or learning - it's important to act now. Waiting until the summer for a referral can delay crucial support that your child may need before starting kindergarten.
Contact us today to schedule a screening. Let's work together to ensure your child has the best possible start in kindergarten!
