ATTENDANCE INFORMATION
DID YOU KNOW?
• Starting in preschool and kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.
• Missing 10%, or about 2 days each month over the course of a school year, can make it harder to learn to read
• Students can still fall behind if they miss just 1 or 2 days every few weeks.
The awareness of the impact of attendance on students can help parents make more informed decisions when it comes to how to prepare for school. If you need assistance with a challenge impacting attendance please reach out to your student's teacher, Ms. Ellen Thomas, School Counselor (ethomas@ptschools.org), or Alixaundrea Poli, School Social Worker, (apoli@ptschools.org). We have resources to support you and your students learning.

Key City Public Theatre
Theatre Immersion Week in Dr. D's Class
Our Theatre Immersion Week with Key City Public Theatre was a success on a number of levels. Throughout the week, it was exciting and fascinating to watch the Superhero Kids engage in the various improvisational theatre games, express themselves creatively, expand their abilities to concentrate and focus, embrace the challenge of learning and reciting lines, gain confidence in their acting and moving skills, embody their characters so fully, develop into a supportive and cohesive ensemble of actors and singers, and recognize that hard work can be fun and rewarding.
They performed From Foes to Friend.
I have had many very memorable and deeply satisfying experiences throughout my career as an educator. What took place this past week will hold a special place in my heart. Thanks again to Bry, Brendan and Denise from Key City Public Theatre and to Principal Condran and Superintendent Rosenbury for making the week possible.

We have fun at Salish Coast!

Ms. Sally - Kindergarten Teacher
What is your favorite thing about working at SC as a teacher?
My favorite thing is making learning and being at school a fun experience for everyone.
Where are you originally from?
I was raised in Chimacum and have lived my adult life in Massachusetts, England, Chimacum, and Port Townsend.
What is on your bucket list?
Oddly enough, as much as I LOVE lists, I don't really have a bucket list. It seems stressful to have a list always hovering around with the pressure to make it all come true.
What is a fun fact about you?
Growing up every summer my family made hay in our fields. When I was really young I had two jobs to help out. The first was to run home each day at lunch to make Kool-Aid and sandwiches for my brothers and the others hauling the hay and the second job was to roll the bales next to each other, for which I was paid a penny for each bale I rolled. At around 13 I learned to drive the trucks and from then on that was the best part of haying season!
Hannah, Para - educator
What is your favorite thing about working at SC as a teacher/para?
My favorite thing about working here as a paraeducator is getting to see all of the students everyday! I get to work with students from Kindergarten through 5th grade. It is always so fun to get to talk to students about what is going on in their lives.
Where are you originally from?
I am originally from Port Ludlow. I have grown up coming to Port Townsend to go to Fort Warden, Elevated Ice Cream, the Rhody Parade, the Wooden Boat Festival, and all the different fun events that happen here. It is really fun to get to work here now too!
What is on your bucket list?
Traveling is on my bucket list! I have done quite a bit of traveling already but I would love to do more! Next on my list is Greece, Australia, and the Caribbean Islands! I also would love to see the northern lights!
What is a fun fact about you?
A fun fact about me is that when I was in elementary school I showed rabbits in bunny 4H.
Mr. Lynch
What is your favorite thing about working at SC?
I love working with the students, staff and families at Salish Coast Elementary! The Salish Coast team of teachers and staff work hard to serve our students in the best way we can, and it’s great to be a part of such a dedicated team. My favorite part of my job is supporting all students, especially those that are struggling, in being respectful, responsible, safe and successful in our school. I love providing students with strategies and supports to help them regulate their emotions and bodies so they can fully participate in the exciting learning offered here at Salish.
Where are you originally from?
I was born in Spokane, but spent my childhood and young adult years in central Oregon. I moved back to eastern Washington to go to college to be a teacher. My first teaching jobs were with the Northshore School District. I moved to Port Townsend in 2002 and during that time have worked for the Port Angeles, Chimacum and Port Townsend School Districts. I am now in my 24th year in education.
What is on your bucket list?
I would love to someday travel to Greece, snow ski in all the places in the PNW, and travel just about anywhere with my family.
What is a fun fact about you?
I love to work with kids, like to fix things, ride bikes, snow ski, travel with my family, walk our family dog with my spouse, and bake for my family!
