Dressing for the Weather
Living in New Hampshire requires adaptability to frequent weather changes. We will go outside for recess every day that we can.
Watch/Listen to local weather reports and help your child dress according to our guidelines (see attached letter). It is recommended that you post these in a visible place at home!
If your student is not dressed for the weather, they will report to the nurse’s office and make a phone call home during their recess time. Thank you for your support as we work to ensure a safe, fun recess time for all students!

Students will have an opportunity to purchase an autographed copy of the book to keep for $10 (this is completely optional). The order form is attached below. A physical copy of the form will also go home.
5th Grade Wreath Fundraiser
It’s time to get prepared for the season while supporting the fifth grade at Canterbury Elementary School. We are selling wreaths in order to fundraise for our field trip to Nature’s Classroom! Our wreaths are made locally in Franklin, by the Three Rivers company.
An order form went home with each student. You may also click below for the order form.

Halloween Fun!
Our annual Halloween event was a success thanks to the hard work of our PTO, room parents and volunteers. I would like to recognize the following volunteers for running the various activity stations: Jim Ashworth, Rene & Cyndi Drouin, Meghan O'Brien Glines, Melissa Grover, Marlyn Hedderick, Danielle Krautmann, Priscilla Lane, Lauren Sinclair, Barbara Slayton, Alice Todd and Kayleigh West.
Thanks to our room parents for organizing the class parties and setting up the classrooms, as well as the parents that sent in healthy treats for the students to enjoy. I would also like to thank Brian Magoon for setting up the pumpkin bowling lane for us. The students look forward to it every year! A special thank you to Dawn Angus and Johnny Cashman for all of their help with set up, music and clean up!
Finally, a very special thank you to Heather Drouin, our Library Assistant and Volunteer Coordinator, for putting the event together. Your energy, dedication and organization are so very appreciated.
Car Drop Off & Pick Up Reminders
After the buses have departed, those in private vehicles may enter the school driveway and proceed to the playground entrance for car rider pick up. A staff member will escort each child safely to their ride. If folks arrive too early, the cars get backed up into the road. Please adhere to the 3:20 arrival time in order to mitigate this issue.
It is also essential that private vehicles do not drive around other vehicles (whether they are school buses or other private vehicles) while students are loading or unloading. Please wait until the vehicle in front of you begins to move.
Thank you for your help in ensuring that our routines are efficient and safe.
Absences
In our current situation, it is necessary to keep students home when they are exhibiting symptoms of COVID. When healthy, it is important for students to be at school daily. Teachers have to move forward with their curriculum, and much of the learning takes place through student interaction in the classroom, particularly with our new math program. Teachers certainly attempt to help students get caught up when they are absent, but some of the learning experiences simply cannot be replicated. We want students to be excited about coming to school, and getting behind can make school frustrating. Please work with us to help students understand that each day at school is important.
Absences are excused in the event of sickness, required quarantine, a death in the family, or medical appointments. Other absences are considered unexcused and should be avoided.
Please note: SRSD School Board Policy JH states that for absences other than illness, parents must provide a written notice to the principal 10 days prior to the absence: the reason for the absence and how long the student will be absent.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for partnering with CES to support the success of all students.
