The Eagle's Beak
"Auburn Pride Starts Inside"
November 1, 2024
Principal's Corner
Dear Auburn Eagle Families,
Happy Halloween, Auburn Eagles! Our parade and classroom parties were a fantastic success—it was such a joy to see all our students in their costumes! Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who helped with the classroom celebrations and those who joined us for the parade. Be sure to check our Auburn Elementary Facebook page for photos! We’re grateful to everyone who donated snacks, time, and items to make this day special.
Auburn Elementary is a truly special place, enriched by the diversity of our families and staff.
Today also marks the start of Diwali, celebrated by many in Hindu, Jain, Sikh, and some Buddhist communities. Diwali, one of the most cherished Hindu festivals, varies each year based on the lunar calendar; this year, it’s observed on Thursday, with some celebrating on Friday. This festival celebrates the victory of good over evil, with candles, oil lamps, and sparklers illuminating homes to signify the triumph of light over darkness.
Enjoy the Fall break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Wednesday, November 6, 2024!
Warm regards,
Principal Byas
Diwali
Diwali is one of the most celebrated Hindu festivals. The annual festival tends to fall between October and November, but the exact date varies each year as the Hindu calendar is based on the Moon. This year, Diwali is being celebrated on Thursday, but some parts of the country will observe the festival on Friday. Diwali commemorates the victory of good over evil. The word Diwali is derived from the Sanskrit word Deepavali, which means "row of lights". Candles, sparklers, and fireworks all capture the essence of Diwali. People light oil lamps and candles on the day to symbolize the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil.
