Using Kind Words
ππ»ββοΈAt Oakwood, our core values are Respectful π€, Responsible π, and Safe π·.
This week, I wanted to take a moment to discuss what it means for our students to be Respectful π€ by using kind words with each other at school.
Using kind words is an expectation for behavior here at Oakwood. Examples of this are seen and acknowledged by our school staff all day long. Some examples are when students:
- use "Please" and "Thank you" π
- give others a compliment π
- offer to help each other π€
- offer to play with someone π€Ύπ»ββοΈ
- include others who want to play with them ππ»ββοΈ
Each of these examples helps to build others up and create good feelings.
When students don't use kind words, they are often having the opposite effect on others. Unkind words hurt feelings and create stress for our students. When these things happen, we tell our students to ask others to stop using the unkind words and to ask for adult help if they need it.
This week, have a conversation with your student(s) about:
1) Using kind words π¬ and
2) What to do when others are not using kind words
With your support at home, we can continue to develop our students into successful citizens of the world by being Respectful π€.
