The Administration Hub
The Administration Hub serves as a cornerstone of support and welfare for our student body, offering a comprehensive range of services to meet the diverse needs of our community. Designed as a one-stop centre, the Administration Hub aims to foster a supportive, safe, and welcoming environment for students, parents, whanau, and staff alike. Below is an outline of the key services provided:
1. A One-Stop Centre for Student Welfare
The Administration Hub is designed to cater to all aspects of student welfare under one roof. Whether students seek academic, emotional, or social support, the Administration Hub ensures their needs are met promptly and effectively.
2. A Safe and Friendly Environment
We prioritise creating a welcoming and secure space where both students whanau and parents feel comfortable. The Administration Hub is staffed with approachable personnel who foster a sense of trust and belonging, making it an essential resource within the school.
3. Pastoral Advice and Guidance
Recognising the importance of holistic development, the Administration Hub in conjunction with the pastoral team and counsellor provides pastoral advice to support students in managing personal challenges, fostering resilience, and promoting overall well-being.
4. Referrals to Specialist Agencies
For students requiring additional support beyond the school’s resources, the Administration Hub in conjunction with the pastoral team and Learning Support Coordinator facilitates referrals to specialist agencies. These partnerships ensure students have access to expert care and services tailored to their unique circumstances.
5. Career Guidance and Mentoring
To prepare students for life beyond school, the Administration Hub working alongside the Careers Department offers career guidance and mentoring services. Students receive personalised advice on career pathways, CV preparation, and job applications, empowering them to make informed decisions about their futures.
6. Tertiary Education Advice
The Administration Hub provides dedicated support for students planning to pursue higher education. This includes guidance on university applications, scholarships, and course selection to help students navigate the tertiary education landscape.
7. Peer Mentoring
To foster a sense of community and mutual support, the Administration Hub along with the pastoral team and counsellor organises peer mentoring programs. Mentors are paired with students to provide guidance, share experiences, and offer emotional support.
8. Home/School Contact
Maintaining strong communication between home and school is a priority. The Administration Hub and the school's Attendance Officers serve as a liaison, ensuring parents are kept informed and involved in their child’s educational journey.
9. Security Room
The Administration Hub houses a secure storage room for students' belongings, particularly sports equipment, providing peace of mind and ensuring the safety of their property during school hours.
10. First Aid / Medical Centre
The Administration Hub includes a well-equipped First Aid and Medical Centre, staffed by a nurse available daily. This ensures immediate medical assistance for students and staff in case of illness or injury.
11. Attendance Support
The Administration Hub along with the pastoral team and Attendance Officers oversee attendance monitoring, working closely with students and parents to address any attendance-related issues. This service ensures that students remain engaged and active in their learning.
Conclusion
The Administration Hub is an invaluable resource within our school, offering a holistic array of services to promote student welfare, academic success, and personal development. By addressing the diverse needs of our community, the Administration Hub plays a crucial role in fostering a nurturing and inclusive school environment.

School Docs
Our school has been working with SchoolDocs to create a website for our policies and procedures. We are excited to announce that the site is now live and available to our school community.
The school works on a subscription basis with SchoolDocs to maintain, update, and review our policies. SchoolDocs provides us with a comprehensive core set of policies, which have been well researched and align with the National Education and Learning Priorities. The policies and procedures are tailored to our school, and the school supplies specific information such as our charter, and procedures for behaviour management, reporting to parents, etc.
SchoolDocs updates, modifies, or creates policies in response to changes in legislation or Ministry guidelines, significant events, reviews/requests from schools, and regular reviewing from the SchoolDocs team. Our school board has the opportunity to view changes/additions and comment on them before they are implemented. We will advise you when policies are up for review and how you can take part in the review.
We invite you to visit the site at https://hastingsboys.schooldocs.co.nz (note that there's no "www."). Our username is "hastingsboys" and password "hbhs".

Pōwhiri to Welcome New Year 9s and New Staff
On Tuesday 28 January, the first day of school for 2025, a very special pōwhiri took place. This ceremony was to welcome new students and staff to our kura. Thank you to the whole community and in particular the students in our Kapa Haka group for welcoming and challenging the new boys to become successful members of our school.
SPORT
Waka Ama
Four of our students (Teariki-Joseph Maui, Hamiora Fatialofa, Tawa Paringatai, Fonua Ofa) represented their Waka Ama club at the Waka Ama Nationals earlier this month. They represent Te Rau Oranga o Ngati Kahungunu Waka Ama and they carried themselves with pride, earning them a W12 Bronze Medal in a very competitive J16s grade.
