CAPTAIN CROWTHER'S CORNER
Ahoy Parents!
Well- we did it! We made it through another awesome school year! I'm so proud of the hard work our students and staff did this year. We absolutely had LOTS of learning happening. We are already planning for next year!
To our Cullen Families - Thank you for being awesome Navigators! Our lives have been changed because you have been a part of our family. And just because you are joining a new family, please remember that you will ALWAYS be a part of the NAVIGATOR family! We will be watching your successes as you become a school family of your own.
To our Returning Navigators - PLEASE, PLEASE register your child for school next year! I need the most accurate numbers possible to work on having enough teachers for our students. Our enrollment will be less next year, with a little breathing room, but we will still be a very large school! We are a "destination campus" after all! 😀
Take care and we will see you in August!
Have a fantastic, restful, summer!
Mrs. Crowther
Library News!
Hello Awesome Navigator Families,
We still have close to 100 books out! Please continue to either pay for lost books over the summer of it you locate a lost book please bring it up to the school over the summer Monday - Friday. There will be instructions posted on how to contact the school secretary left on the front desk or front door. She will take those found books and get them to us. It is important for your child to have a clear library account in the fall so they can continue to check out great books next school year. Here is the link to pay for a missing book.
Also, the library is wanting to build a raised reading platform in the shape of the bow of a boat for our students to enjoy in the library. If you know of anyone with any carpentry skills who may be able to help us with this, please let us know! We have the money to pay for both the supplies and for someone's time and efforts to build this project. Please email me at Jennifer.Marcionetti@hayscisd.net if you have any leads.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS
Updated - District Dress Code for Students
Hays CISD Dress Code Clarification
Upon further discussion, we have decided to send out clarification regarding our district’s dress code expectations for the 2023-2024 school year. Below you will find our dress code expectations:
- All pants/shorts/skirts/skorts should be worn at the waist to avoid “sagging/bagging.”
- Tight fitting pants, such as (tights, spandex, bicycle pants, leggings) should be worn with a shirt that covers the stomach.
- Fashionable pants featuring minimal holes and frays can be worn if it does not reveal the undergarment or skin above mid-thigh.
- Shorts, skirts and/or skorts are appropriate to wear if they do not reveal the buttocks area.
- Shirts should not be see-through or transparent, reveal excessive cleavage, or show the stomach/back area.
- Hats may be worn outside the building to prevent facial sun exposure. Wearing a hat inside the building may be considered based on individual circumstances that may include medical and/or other factors. Documentation will be required to support exceptions.
- Sweatshirts and/or shirts with hoodies may be worn if the hoodie is not worn over the head inside the building.
- SmartTags/Student IDs are part of the dress code. Students are expected to wear their ID every day around their neck.
District Guidelines - Toy Weapons
From our Student Services Director, Brian Dawson:
We are seeing students bring their toy weapons to school. Specifically, toy guns and lasers. They have not used them as a threat toward anyone. However, these items can cause fear with the current time we are living in.
A replica of a weapon, such as a toy gun, is not a weapon. However, a student can receive both campus consequences for bringing the item(s) to campus, on a bus, or a school-sponsored event. If the item is thought to be or represented as a real weapon, a student could go to our District Alternative Education Program.
In our student code of conduct, it states:
Possession of Prohibited Items
Students shall not possess or use:
- Fireworks of any kind, smoke or stink bombs, or any other pyrotechnic device;
- A razor, box cutter, chain, or any other object used in a way that threatens or inflicts bodily injury to another person;
- A “look-alike” weapon that is intended to be used as a weapon or could reasonably be perceived as a weapon;
- An air gun or BB gun;
- Ammunition;
- A hand instrument designed to cut or stab another by being thrown;
- A firearm silencer or suppressor;
- A location-restricted knife;
- A club;
- A firearm;
- A firearm silencer or suppressor;
- A stun gun;
- Knuckles;
- A pocket knife or any other small knife;
- Mace or pepper spray;
- Pornographic material;
- Tobacco products, cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and any component, part, or accessory for an e-cigarette device (HB 114 requires mandatory placement in a DAEP for any offenses related to e-cigarettes);
- Matches or a lighter;
- A laser pointer, unless it is for an approved use; or
- Any articles not generally considered to be weapons, including school supplies, when the principal or designee determines that a danger exists.
