Happy Holiday Season Main Families,
We are excited to share the holiday season with our families. We have many activities going on this month. We hope you can join us for our Snowflake Village on Saturday, December 7 from 10-2 in the gymnasium. There will be volunteers helping your children purchase and wrap gifts for their families. We hope you can come back that evening for our 2nd annual Holiday Tree Lighting sponsored by the Beavercreek High School Student Council. Come and enjoy holiday crafts, hot chocolate, a movie, and a Show Choir performance. The festivities start at 7:00 PM and the tree lighting will be at 9:00 PM.
In addition to exciting holiday activities, we are also working hard on our normal curriculum. Main Elementary kindergarten through 2nd grade students use a phonics curriculum called UFLI. Here is a link to some resources which explain the curriculum and offer activities for how to help your child with phonics at home. Developing phonics skills is one of the key pillars of being a good reader.
We are so thankful to be a part of your child’s life. The Main community is an amazing place to learn and grow. The family/school partnership is a critical element in developing successful and happy young people and we are blessed to have such a supportive community. We appreciate you!
Jon Webb

Did You Know?
No Tech ways to Bust Boredom While waiting…
The time is near where families get together at restaurants for parties or just because their lives are too busy to cook. All too often technology is handed to kids of all ages while waiting. Not only does this take away valuable time when great discussions can be had with your captive audience, but it does not teach the valuable skill of waiting. No one likes to wait, but it is a fact of life, it’s going to happen at restaurants, in school, doctors appointments and we need to equip our kids with tools to help them wait peacefully. Here are some ideas that you may want to try next time you are out: I Spy or 20 Questions, Would You Rather or Mad Libs books (find some of these books on Amazon), tic-tac-to(draw once and use “sugar” packets as the markers), travel sized games, pipe cleaners or wikki stix that fit into a small backpack, Banagrams, Uno, Plus Plus blocks(Target), Rubick’s cube. The ideas are endless. Let the kids pick a couple of things they want to take in their bag. Some of these may be great inexpensive stocking stuffers!
Lunch & Learn with Student Nutrition - Main Elementary December 3rd
Main PTO
This last month we were so grateful for the chance to show our appreciation to our Main Elementary staff with the Annual Baked Potato Bar and we really appreciate the work that our hospitality committee did along with the donation from Day Air Credit Union to make it possible!
The kids enjoyed celebrating their Beaver Main-ia achievements by having lunch with the principal too!
We are looking forward to our holiday shop, The Snowflake Village, which will take place on Saturday, December 7th and there will be a surprise guest making an appearance for the kiddos! Come enjoy a holiday movie while your kids shop for the special people in their lives!
Next PTO meeting is on December 5th at 6:30pm in the library and we look forward to seeing you there!
Attendance & Office Information
To report an absence or late arrival, please call the absence line, 937-429-7588 option 1 - or send an email to mainattendance@gocreek.org. Include your child’s name, teacher & reason for the absence or late arrival. Please bring or send in doctor/dentist notes from appointments within 5 school days when your child returns to school.
All parents, guardians, and visitors will need to check in at the security window first before entering the building and to sign students in and out of school. Please have your government issued ID and present this at the check in window. All visitors who will be coming into the main building will need to have their driver's license scanned at the window.
If you receive a missed call from Main, please take a few moments to check your voicemail. Most times there is no emergency, and someone has left you a message. The office does not know where to direct your call if you call back immediately without first checking your message.
When sending notes, lunch money and misc. payments to school, please include your child’s first and last name, the date, and the teacher’s name. For payments, also include what the check/cash is for.
Limit the bringing of items forgotten by students to urgent items. Items must be left on the cart in the vestibule. Stickers are provided to label items with student name and homeroom.
Free Tutoring Opportunity
Tutoring at the Beavercreek Community Library will start September 4 and is held on Wednesdays from 4-7pm and Saturdays 10am-1pm. The tutoring is free to students in grades K-12 and they do NOT have to be Beavercreek students. With that said, it is a drop in style and parents do not need to make an appointment. All of the tutors are either current or retired teachers. Students may bring their own materials, but we also have a plethora of activities for students as well.
