Information about class lists for the 21-22 school year:
Dear Families,
Assigning Sato students to their classes for the next school year is an important responsibility. Our goal is to place students in a learning environment in which they can succeed. Classroom teachers and specialists provide important input into classroom make-up. They spend time with students in the classroom and other school environments and are aware of student needs, abilities and learning styles, as well as relationship considerations. For this reason we have an extensive process by which we collaboratively consider the following criteria as we organize classes for next year:
Gender balance
Combination of students who may have a positive or negative influence on each other’s learning and play
Balance of students with individualized education programs, academic achievement and second language needs
Balance of social maturity
We recognize that as parents and caregivers you are your child’s most important advocate and teacher. We want to offer you the opportunity to provide information on your child that may not be directly available or observable in the school environment. You may provide relevant educational information about the specific needs or learning characteristics of your child by completing the form on the next page. We are requiring that all input be in writing in order to protect the integrity of our process. Please do not request a specific teacher. Individual teacher requests cannot be considered because student balance is first priority in class make up and because we can have changes in staffing and the number of classes at grade levels over the summer. Your information sheet will be taken into consideration while the team makes classroom assignments. While we work to honor the information you provide, the final placement decision is made by the school.
Thank you for your patience and support! THIS student information form is optional for parents to submit. However, it is due by Friday, May 14th, if you choose to provide us with additional information.
Classroom assignments will be available at the end of August.
Sincerely,
Annie Pleau, Principal Sato Elementary

BSD Annual Parent Survey
A link to the 2021 Annual Parent Survey will be sent to all valid parent email addresses via School Messenger on Sunday, May 9. The deadline to participate is Sunday, May 31.
Dear Sato Parents and Guardians,
It’s data collection time again for Beaverton’s Safe Routes to School program. The purpose of this program is to make walking and biking to school safe, convenient, and fun.
Parent’s and guardian’s input into how students travel to and from schools and their impression of the safety of the route is valuable as the city and county prioritize needed improvements for our roads. The following link was generated from the National Safe Routes to School Center and will be used to give us a good picture of how students are getting to and from schools throughout the district.
The school’s survey will be open for responses until May 31.
We appreciate your help in giving us information to make our program effective for all Beaverton School District students.
Thank you,
Leah Biado-Luis

Kids are everywhere. Drive like it.
As students return to schools for in-person learning this month, arrival and departure times may be different than you are used to. While traffic and activities around Beaverton schools may look different, one thing is for sure – kids are out and about in our community. Some kids may be returning to school buildings while others will be continuing to learn remotely and taking breaks outside during the day. Safety is everyone’s responsibility! Kids are everywhere. #DriveLikeIt.
Driving Safety Tips
Our community needs everyone to drive safely, be alert, and follow traffic laws, especially when observing students walking, biking, skateboarding, and scootering. Let’s work together to keep our students safe!
- Stop for school busses when red lights flash. Both directions of traffic must stop.
- Watch your speed. 20 mph is the school zone speed limit.
- Be ready to stop at all times. Kids may dart into the street without checking for traffic.
- Stop for people at intersections and when asked by the crossing guard. Check your blind spots before turning and behind your vehicle before reversing.
- Drive for conditions – This time of year is often rainy and foggy limiting visibility for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians so keep those headlights on to help others see you.
If you would like to opt your child out of free meals - please fill out the form below
Playground Use
Please know that during our in-person Hybrid Instruction time, our outdoor school facilities — playgrounds, fields, tracks and paths — will be closed to the general public for the safety of our students and staff.
After school hours, families are welcome to use playgrounds, fields, tracks, and paths after in-person instruction and do so at their own risk. Please be mindful and respectful to staff that continue to work in the buildings after in-person instruction.
Please note that playground equipment will not be sanitized by school staff. Playground visitors are recommended to take precautions for health and safety.
- Follow state guidelines on outdoor recreation activities and face coverings.
- Wash hands before and after visiting the playground.
- Maintain physical distancing of at least 6 feet from people outside your immediate household.
- Bring hand sanitizer or sanitizing wipes for use on surfaces you touch.
- Stay home if you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms or have been in contact with someone with COVID-19. Symptoms include cough, fever and shortness of breath.
