Noon Message to Families
August 26, 2024
Cedar Hill ISD Families & Community,
When the citizens of Cedar Hill approved a $282 Million Bond last May by a nearly 2-to-1 margin, it was a vote of confidence in the school district. We now have the opportunity to address long overdue infrastructure needs and modernize our technology needs.
While construction projects go through many phases between blueprints and the finished product, we are able to move ahead immediately on the Technology aspect of the Bond (Prop B).
CHISD has purchased Chromebook devices, which have been delivered to Cedar Hill High School already, with the expectation that all scholars will have new Chromebooks in their hand by the middle of September.
Thank you for your continued support!
Dr. Gerald B. Hudson
Superintendent
Power Up & Protect Your Chromebook
Fall of 2024, Cedar Hill ISD offers families an optional protection plan to insure the district-owned Chromebooks issued to students. This insurance program protects the Chromebook against loss, theft or destruction as a result of accidental damage (drops/spills, fire, flood and natural disasters). This insurance policy will provide replacement cost coverage and protect the Chromebook on and off school grounds for one school year.
Protect Yourself and Loved Ones from COVID
When people get sick with a respiratory virus, the updated guidance recommends that they stay home and away from others.
- For people with COVID-19 and influenza, treatment is available and can lessen symptoms and lower the risk of severe illness.
- The recommendations suggest returning to normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, symptoms are improving overall, and if a fever was present, it has been gone without use of a fever-reducing medication for 24 hours.
- If tested positive, recommend wearing a mask for a total of 10 days.
Empowering Our Students: Building Essential Success Skills
At Cedar Hill ISD, we believe that academic achievement goes hand in hand with the development of essential life skills. As we strive to provide a holistic education, it’s crucial to focus on building the success skills that will empower our students not only in the classroom but throughout their lives.
1. Time Management: Effective time management is the cornerstone of success. Students should learn to prioritize tasks, set realistic deadlines, and create a balanced schedule. This skill helps manage schoolwork, extracurricular activities, and personal time, reducing stress and improving productivity.
2. Organization: Staying organized is key to academic success. Encourage students to keep track of assignments, due dates, and materials in a planner or digital tool. A well-organized workspace and clear, methodical notes can enhance focus and make studying more efficient.
3. Goal Setting: Setting short-term and long-term goals gives students direction and motivation. Break these goals down into actionable steps, and celebrate progress along the way. This not only boosts confidence but also instills a sense of purpose.
4. Effective Communication: Communication is vital in every aspect of life. Encourage students to express their thoughts clearly and respectfully, whether with teachers, peers, or family members. Good communication helps resolve conflicts, fosters collaboration, and strengthens relationships.
5. Resilience and Growth Mindset: Developing resilience is essential for navigating the challenges and setbacks that are part of any learning journey. Encourage students to adopt a growth mindset—seeing mistakes as opportunities to learn and grow, rather than as failures.
By nurturing these skills, we are equipping our students with the tools they need to succeed academically and personally. Together, let’s support our students in becoming confident, capable, and resilient individuals ready to take on the future.
Skyward Family Access
Skyward Family Access is an essential tool for both parents and students, providing a centralized platform for managing and monitoring academic progress. With real-time access to grades, attendance records, assignments, and schedules, it fosters transparency and keeps parents informed about their child's education. This level of visibility allows parents to support their child's learning by addressing academic challenges promptly, ensuring that students stay on track.
Additionally, Skyward Family Access facilitates better communication between parents, students, and educators. Parents can easily communicate with teachers, monitor upcoming school events, and stay updated on school announcements. This collaborative approach helps to create a stronger support system around the student, promoting a more personalized and effective educational experience.
For students, Skyward Family Access is a valuable resource for self-monitoring. It encourages accountability, as they can track their own progress, set goals, and take proactive steps to improve their performance. The platform's user-friendly interface makes it easy for students to navigate, ensuring that they remain engaged with their academic responsibilities.
Teen Superintendent Student Roundtable
We are excited to introduce a new initiative: the Teen Superintendent Roundtable. This program is specifically designed for our 8th and 12th-grade students, offering a unique opportunity to collaborate directly with district leadership on matters important to them and our community. Through this initiative, students will engage in meaningful discussions, share their perspectives, and contribute to the development of Cedar Hill ISD. It’s a platform where their voices can be heard, and their ideas can help shape the future of our district. We believe this Roundtable will not only empower our students but also foster a stronger sense of community and leadership among them.
More details about the application process and meeting schedules will be shared soon. We look forward to the innovative ideas and discussions that our students will bring to the table.
Thank you for your continued support of Cedar Hill ISD and our commitment to developing future leaders.
