Diploma Pathways

FND PEN is hosting a workshop on the Nuts & Bolts of Diploma Pathways with the Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida on Tuesday 21st, 2022 from 1:00 to 2:30 pm on Zoom (Click here to register in advance) and it will live stream in the DSACF Facebook page as well.

Workshop Summary

This presentation provides information to help students and their families understand the various pathways to graduation, including information on accelerated options and deferred graduation.

Soren is the Assistant Program Director for the Parent Education Network, a project under the Family Network on Disabilities (FND). Soren has completed Florida Partners in Policymaking, Pete’s Wrightslaw workshops, and Facilitated IEP Training. Soren has been involved with the public school system and IEPs for over 5 years and enjoys educating parents on how to navigate the special education process. Soren lives in Central Florida with her husband and son. Soren was born and raised in Aruba and speaks four languages (English, Spanish, Dutch, and Papiamento).

Luz Oquendo is a Parent Training Coordinator at Florida Network on Disabilities (FND). With over a decade of personal experiences in special education advocacy, Luz's journey began when her daughter was diagnosed with Leigh's Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder affecting her central nervous system. Luz began educating herself on healthcare advocacy and the IEP process to help her daughter. Her daughter's Journey inspired her to live up to her own potential. Luz received both a Bachelor and Master degree in Public Administration, with a certification in Nonprofit Management from the University of Central Florida. She is a proud graduate of the Florida Developmental Disability Council, Partners in Policymaking leadership program, in addition to countless trainings. She has worked throughout Central Florida advocating for supports and services for people with disabilities. Luz believes in the power of advocacy, she is committed to educating and empowering parents to be their child's best advocate.

The Down Syndrome Association of Central Florida (DSACF) is committed to offering hope, acceptance, and empowerment to all individuals with Down syndrome and their families.
