Short Avenue IB Learners Strive to Be...
Mr. Lamb's Updates
Happy Weekend Short Avenue Families and Friends!
I know that the end of Summer can be sad for many but we are super excited for the 2024-2025 school year beginning tomorrow, Monday, August 12, 2024. We canโt wait to begin this year with our students and families!
We are a great school. Great schools can improve. We will always keep that fact at the forefront of our goals. One of the keys to this effort is Attendance. Students learn best when they are here and engaged in lessons and activities with their teacher and their peers. There will be a lot of talk and data shared as we work to improve our attendance rates. To assist, please know that gates will open EVERY day at 7:55am. Instruction begins EVERY day at 8:15am. Dismissal on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday is at 2:38pm. Dismissal EVERY Tuesday is at 1:35pm. Please plan family trips for when LAUSD is on break. Please make on-time daily attendance a priority for your student.
Every new school year brings changes and this one is no different. We welcome Prime Time and the Boys and Girls Club Venice as new after school care providers. FoSA is using Class DoJo as their primary communication tool and all families are invited to download the app to not miss parent messages. We grew one additional class and had two teachers say goodbye - our 3 new teachers are selected but we are opening the year with substitute teachers in UTK and 5th grade, as processing with the district continues (I know this is frustrating but we prioritized hiring great teachers rather than hiring quickly).
Every week you will get an email and a text from me with the link to this newsletter via Blackboard Connect. This is the official communication tool of the district. I know that the district sends a lot of messages but please do not โopt outโ of emails or text messages. If you do, you will miss my official communication efforts. Our website and our social media are other school-based tools we use to keep you informed so please work with us to stay informed.
Finally, on the first day of school we invite parents of our 1st-5th grade students to walk on campus with your child to meet teachers and for a brief welcome assembly. All UTK/Kindergarten families are reminded that school begins at 9am. Signs and staff will assist with drop off and we will have the Parent Orientation in the Auditorium.
Thank you and we look forward to a great school year!
