Principally Speaking
Yesterday's Halloween festivities were a great success! I want to extend a big thank you to all the parents who planned such excellent and engaging parties for our students. During my visits to most of the classrooms, it was wonderful to see students enjoying crafts, games, and all the Halloween fun. The costumes displayed in the parade were incredibly creative! One of the biggest highlights was the pie-throwing event—a schoolwide reward from our Fox Trot fundraiser. Thank you to our PTO for organizing the logistics to make this event possible.
Looking ahead to next week, we'll host our Primary Literacy Night on Monday; details are provided below. Please remember that there will be no school on Tuesday due to Election Day. Also, don't forget to set your clocks back this weekend!
Primary Literacy Night
In a few weeks we will host our first primary family literacy night. Parents and students in grades kindergarten-second grade are invited to learn about early literacy skills, parents and kids will participate in activities created by a team led by our reading specialist, Amy Kappele. We are planning for 3 skill based rotations. Please use the google form to RSVP, due to content and space we can only accomodate students and parents in grades K-2.
Please use the link to RSVP using the google form-RSVPs are due by Tuesday, October 29 so we can plan for the attendees.
The following information is being provided as a reminder of District 303's attendance procedures and how information may be recorded and shared with a student's family throughout the school year.

VETERAN'S DAY
In an effort to honor our veteran's we are beginning to plan our Veteran's day celebration. I am including a google form which serves as an invitation for any family members or community members who served.
Below is an attached flyer for you to print and complete and return to school so we can place these up in our hallways and students can see photos and information regarding Fox Ridge community veterans. More information will be shared regarding a gathering.
Donations Needed for Paws
As part of our school wide behavior incentives, individual students earn Golden Paws from teachers for meeting our behavior expectations of being respectful, responsible and safe. The Paws are entered into a raffle drawing that takes place on Fridays during lunch time. Students are recognized by their peers and are able to select a small prize. If you have items you would like to donate (stickers, croc charms, pokemon cards, etc), please send them in to Mrs. Patty Griffith, our Student Support Interventionist.
--District 303 Partners With GPS Parent Series
District 303 is proud to partner with the Glenbard Parent Series (GPS) to offer our families broader access to information sessions and resources that support their child’s development.
For decades, GPS has been offering free programs that aim to empower and strengthen families, individuals and communities. As a partner organization, District 303 will support promoting upcoming programs and their importance to our local community.
All students, families, D303 staff members, and community members are invited to join us for the Compass Academy Open House and Student Showcase on Thursday, November 7th, from 4 to 7 PM. Enjoy delicious offerings from two fantastic food trucks: Sweet Sensations, serving delectable edible cookie dough and ice cream, and Tacomotora, featuring mouthwatering tacos, burrito bowls, and other Mexican street food favorites. The event will showcase students' work, and attendees can participate in a scavenger hunt and a raffle with some amazing prizes—entry to the raffle is free! This is a wonderful opportunity for anyone interested in discovering what Compass Academy has to offer.
Health Office News
CHANGE OF CLOTHES:
Please remember to send a weather appropriate change of clothes to school with your student.
Also, we need donations of gently used girls and boys clothes sizes 5/6 and 7/8 to keep in the health office. Pants, shirts and underwear are desperately needed.
ILLNESS:
If your student is diagnosed with an illness or infection, please notify the health office. We are tracking our students' health closely to watch for any trends in the classrooms. This includes, but not limited to, respiratory illnesses, COVID, Flu, Pink Eye, and Strep. We appreciate any information you give us regarding your student in the event they are ill.
Please remind your student to cover their coughs and sneezes and wash their hands often.
The CDC recommends that people with strep throat stay home from work, school, or daycare until they meet the following criteria:
- They are no longer feverish
- They have been taking antibiotics for at least 12–24 hours
People with strep throat should also:
- Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or sleeve
- Wash hands frequently
- Wash cups, utensils, and other items that have been touched by an infected person

Santa's Helper with Big Hearts of Fox Valley
Sign up to help the children in D303 receive holiday gifts from wish lists that each family personally creates. Wish lists consist of a few toy ideas as well as basic items like clothing, coats, and shoes. When signing up to be a Santa's Helper, you will be shopping for a child who will remain anonymous. Helpers are asked to purchase 5-10 items from their wish list. Since this, in many cases, will be the only gifts children receive, donors can expect to spend between $75-$100 per child.
