The Underwood Way
It's beginning to look a lot like...🎄
'Tis the Season
As we enter this busy and exciting time of year, we know that things can sometimes feel a little stressful. We want to remind you of some important resources and opportunities that may help ease the season for your family.
Food Backpack Program:
Our Food Backpack Program continues to provide weekly food for students in need. If your child is on the free and reduced lunch program and you would like to participate, please reach out to the school for more details.
Comet Closet:
We have food/home necessities for you to be able to pick up at the school. Please reach out to our School Counselor, Katie Heger to set up a time to 'shop' the Comet Closet. (see below)
Winter Gear Assistance:
As the weather gets colder, we want to ensure that all students have the necessary winter gear to stay warm and safe during outdoor activities. If you are in need of winter coats, hats, gloves, or other gear for your child, please contact the school, and we will be happy to assist. (see below for gear needed)
In-Town Bussing Needs:
If you would like to make some extra money for a couple hours a day work, we are still looking for additional drivers to help with in-town bussing. If you or someone you know is interested in this position, please reach out to the school for more information.
We appreciate your continued support and wish you all a joyful and peaceful holiday season.

Library Lines with Mrs. Nagel
For our Accelerated Reader program this year, I am selecting “AR Stars of the Month.” These will be either the student in each grade earning the most points for the month or a student who has made significant improvement. They will be posted in the hallway outside the Library. November’s “AR Stars” are: Kinley- 2nd, Madden - 3rd, Cooper - 4th, Macy - 5th, and Levi - 6th. Way to read!
A reminder also of our 100 AR Points Field Trip that places in May - students will have until the end of April or shortly after to make it to 100 points. A great goal is to earn at least 30 points by the end of this semester.
In November Elementary Library for grades PreK-1, we had some guest readers come share a story and what they are thankful for. Students also were able to color turkeys. For December, we will be reading some Christmas stories. Gingerbread men and Christmas stockings will be our coloring activities to help make the Library festive.
In Elementary Library for grades 2-6, we continued centers in November, with “Finding Information” as our focus topic. Students learned and explored how to find accurate information in encyclopedias, dictionaries, and online via the kid-friendly search engine “Kiddle” and “PebbleGo” database. For December, we are going to be trying out some coding, as it is Computer Science Education Week the 9th-15th. We will be utilizing the website www.code.org, which provides some great courses and activities for learning about and trying out coding.
The Bookmobile will be here on Tuesday, December 10th. Please help remind students to return Bookmobile items if they haven’t already. Thank you!
Please reach out to angie.nagle@underwoodschool.org with any questions, ideas, or concerns.
