The News
It was a very important day last week for our nation as we elected the 47th President of the United States. We had over a dozen Seniors who got to vote for the very first time and the rest of the student body got to vote in a mock election.
Students in grades 7-12 voted overwhelmingly for Donald J. Trump by a margin of 92.6% to 7.4%. So goes PCHS, so goes the nation. Well, it wasn't that big of a blowout but it was by a considerable margin with Trump garnering 312 electoral votes, well above the 270 needed to win. Inauguration Day will be January 20, 2025.
Veterans Day- This week he honored those who make rights such as voting possible, our Veterans. We recognized over a dozen Veterans who attended our program on Friday morning. Many of these Veterans were family members of our students or staff members and we appreciate them for the sacrifice they made for our country.
Work Keys- Our Seniors took the WorkKeys test on Wednesday. They did a great job! I'm proud of them. We had one student who was four points away from a perfect score. Five students achieved the highest level (Platinum), 11 achieved Gold and 25 achieved Silver. Right now our Senior class stands at 89.4% on the College and Career Readiness standard. Our goal is 100% by the time they graduate.
Basketball- Our junior high basketball team got some wins this week. Our junior high girls beat Winston County, East Franklin and Covenant Christian. Our boys beat Winston County and Covenant. Varsity basketball begins this week with three games, two on the road and one at home on Friday. Chick Fil A will be served.
One Final Show- Our band played their halftime performance for the student body and our 4th, 5th, and 6th grades on Monday. Our band has got a lot of compliments this year from their outstanding National Anthem performance and a great halftime show.
Mean Girls (Jr)- Our schoolwide Drama program is off to a great start. They will be performing the Broadway musical Mean Girls, the junior version. Auditions were this wee and the cast is set (you can see the cast list below). Thank you to Mr. Jonathan Grimes for getting the ball rolling on this production. We hope you will come see it later in the year and support the arts!
Cheer!- I want to say thank you to our hardworking cheerleaders and their coaches! Our cheerleaders are just halfway through their work for the year. They cheer at football games and sometimes three or four basketball games three or four nights a week. It is a major time commitment to be a PCHS Cheerleader.
Honors- PCHS got another Athlete of the Week recognition from a local newspaper. Hayston Scott was recognized for his efforts in a record breaking win over Red Bay. Scott eclipsed the 1000 yard rushing mark after gaining 232 yards and scoring three touchdowns against the Tigers in a 64-22 win.
Freshman Gavin McGee attended the Alfa Youth Leadership Conference in Columbiana.
Shelby Grissom Memorial Fashion Show- Our FACS program will be producing the annual Shelby Grissom Memorial Fashion Show on Thursday, November 21. They are still looking for some door prizes for this great event. If you would like to make donations, contact Mrs. Aleah Harris at school
Have A Great Week!
