Spicewood Elementary
October 25, 2024
Hello Spicewood Families,
I hope everyone has had a great week. I cannot believe October is almost over! I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to all of you for your support and involvement in our school community. Whether it's volunteering, attending school events, or helping with fundraisers, your active participation makes a significant difference in the educational experience of our students. I know we have had a lot of events recently and it has been wonderful to have so many parents involved and helping where they can.
I loved seeing our Panthers all dressed up for picture day! If you have not turned in your picture day order form yet, there is still time! We need all order forms turned in to the front office by 8:00 am on Tuesday October 29th.
Lastly, parents we need your help please. We have had a large numbers of students arriving tardy this week. Some days it was over 50! Doors open at 7:20 and the tardy bell rings at 7:35. It is important that our students are here on time and ready to start the day in their classrooms. Please turn your alarms back a few minutes and help all of our Panthers arrive on time.
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Melanie Solis

IB at Spicewood
According to the Kids 😊
What SKILLS are important to be successful, global-minded citizens?!
Throughout all IB programs, there are 5 “Approaches to Learning” skills intentionally taught: communication skills, research skills, social skills, self-management skills, and thinking skills. Our Spicewood IB students are practicing these skills through a series of challenges. (Ask your child about these!) However, before starting the challenges, we gathered data on what skills students believe are important to being successful, global-minded citizens. Check out their thoughts below! What do YOU think?
Please watch this adorable video of our students and teacher!
50th Anniversary Celebration
UIL Opportunity
Did you know that Spicewood is the reigning UIL Champions for the Westwood Learning Community?
We are looking for interested students to help us defend our title at the UIL meet on February 1st.
There are available events for students in grades 2nd-5th. If your child is interested in participating, they must commit to 6 practices and to be available if chosen to compete at the meet on February 1st. Practice dates and times will be shared to the group after sign ups.
Students may join up to 2 events as long as the events are not in conflict time slots at the meet. Below is the schedule to check for overlapping events.
If your child would like to participate, please fill out this Google Form by our deadline of October 28th. This is a hard deadline so our coaches can prepare information for teams to begin practice.
Before signing up, it is important that your child is interested in the selected event and will be a willing participant!
October is Dyslexia Awareness Month
Dyslexia is often viewed solely through the lens of its challenges, but it also comes with unique strengths. This infographic highlights both the strengths and challenges of individuals with dyslexia, helping to create a balanced understanding. By recognizing these traits, we can better support our children’s learning and celebrate their distinctive abilities.
Science Fair
The Science Fair team has created a website with lots of helpful information about participating in the Science Fair. There is a deadline of December 18th, to register your project.
Last year we had an amazing turnout with over 100 projects! It is always so amazing to see our students interests and thoughts come to life through their projects!

Join PTA Today!
Hello Spicewood Elementary Community!
A huge THANK YOU to those of you who are current valued members of our SWES PTA!
If you have friends or family who aren’t members yet, please encourage them to join. The flyer below highlights how the PTA supports our children, teachers, and school.
Remember, your level of activity and participation is entirely up to you. As a SWE PTA member, you get access to a directory of members as well as weekly updates to all of the happenings at the school. It is very beneficial to have this access to information. As well, more volunteers AND members we have, the more fabulous our programs, events, and clubs become.
Our goal is to reach 630 members by the end of October—and we’re so close! Please help us reach our goal!

Spicewood PTA Thanksgiving Potluck – November 13th
We are excited to host our first annual Thanksgiving Potluck for the Spicewood teachers and staff! After hearing how much they enjoyed the variety of dishes at our One World One Night event, we’re inviting parents to contribute a special dish from your family to share. The PTA will provide turkey and ham from Rudy’s, but we’d love your favorite sides to make the meal complete. Thank you for helping us celebrate and appreciate our amazing staff!
We are THANKFUL for our Teachers
Let's show our amazing teachers how THANKFUL we are for all they do as they head into a well-deserved Thanksgiving break! 🎉🍂
We are hosting a Thanksgiving Pie + HEB Gift Card Drive, with the goal of giving one to each staff member as a sweet token of appreciation.
You can make it easy by ordering a pie online through Triumphant Love - Teacher Pies, and they’ll deliver it directly to the school for us! Just order by November 15 and help us make this Thanksgiving extra special!
P.S. If you order online, please remember to update the SignUp Genius with the number of pies you ordered!
