Mariner Update Family Edition
Volume 14 Issue 21
Mariner Family,
I love our school, do you love your school!
Dear Mariner Family,
I wrote a poem for you, inspired by the people in the photos below—an inside-the-ship look at IHCS this past week.
Ms. Rehill, our Academic Coach, led professional development on the science of teaching reading. Mrs. Quiroz, our Community Outreach Family Advocate (COFA), brought the TODEC organization to Coffee with the Principal in response to parent requests. Mrs. Ledesma, our new Special Projects Clerk, manages educational contracts that bring vital learning resources to IHCS.
Parents participated in SAIL into Stories, fostering a love for reading. Mr. Castro celebrated a student’s Fluent English Proficient (FEP) reclassification, while Mrs. Barry coordinated students, parents, teachers, bilingual aides, projects clerk, ELPAC testing, ELAC attendees, and is pictured in the background tallying the 36 students already reclassified this year, with 14 more eligible—putting us on track to reclassify 50+ students this school year! Mrs. Barry and Mr. Castro also presented reclassification criteria at our recent ELAC meeting.
These images and the poem highlight how every role contributes to student success. At SAIL into Stories, we focused on instilling a love for school and reading, with Mrs. Barry sharing grade-level strategies for parents to use at home. Reading is the key to every dream, and our reading/dream catching mission is clear: help every child read at grade level, understand what they read, and confidently explain it.
Thank you for your partnership and dedication to making IHCS a place where together, as the Mariner Family, we are building a future where every student leads, belongs, and thrives.
With gratitude,
Mr. Candelaria, Principal
Mrs. Barry, Assistant Principal
Mr. Castro, Assistant Principal

Inside Our Ship
Poem: Serving with Heart, Growing with Pride
Our teachers guide, inspire, and teach,
While students strive and lessons reach.
Parents join for SAIL into Stories time,
Reading aloud—Mariner Money in line!
Academic Coaches help us grow,
Supporting staff so skills can flow.
Knowledge is power, we all agree,
Building success for all to see.
Our COFA and Wellbeing Team,
With Counselors, SOSAs, & TOSA, fulfill a dream.
Our COFA heard our parents, needs in sight,
And brought TODEC to shed more light.
With every hand, we rise and stand,
Supporting families through the land.
To lead, belong, and thrive with grace,
We make our school a stronger place.
Our Clerk ensures each contract's right,
For programs running day and night.
The front desk team, with smiles so bright,
Assists with care and pure delight.
Through every season, spring to fall,
Your admin team supports you all.
Together, strong, we stand as one,
Mariner Family—work well done!
Thank you for your partnership and dedication to making IHCS a place where wonders happen every day. Let’s reflect, celebrate, and plan for an even brighter future together.

Agenda Reminders -
This week, elementary teachers will be asked to complete a form for Mrs. Hickey, letting her know which students have filled out their agendas/calendars and have parent signatures for January. Students who have their agendas/calendar filled out will receive a beaded necklace and a chance to punch the board for a bigger prize.
For middle school students, random agenda checks are conducted on Wednesdays. Over the past two weeks, the checks have revealed that many middle school students are not consistently filling out their agendas.
Writing down homework, due dates, and personal events is a great habit to develop now. We encourage you to review your child(ren)’s agenda/calendar daily to ensure it is filled out completely. Thank you for your support!
