Family Update
July 29th 2024
Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year!
We are excited about the upcoming 24-25 school year. I am thrilled to announce we will have a new assistant principal at West this year. Anntara Guenther will be joining the West family. We are also in the process of onboarding a new secretary at West, please be patient if you are calling the school for information during this transition. Below is some information to prepare for the 24-25 school year.
Start of School
School starts for ALL grades on August 15th.
Schedule Pick-up
Schedule pick-up will occur on August 7th from 1:00 to 4:00 and 5:00 to 7:00. Students will receive their schedules for the year and see where their classes are. Guardians can also complete required EMA forms in the gym. 7th grade students will have their vision screening in the auxiliary gym. 6th graders will receive their chromebooks at schedule pick up.
Open House
Open House will be on August 13th.
6th grade 5:00-6:00
7th/8th grade 6:00-7:00
School Day Schedule
The school day is from 9:05 am-3:50 pm.
Doors open for students eating breakfast at 8:40 am. Students not eating breakfast will be allowed to enter at 8:50 am (students will not be permitted in the building until 8:50 am, regardless of the weather, so plan accordingly)
Students are late to school if they arrive after 9:05 am (students arriving after 9:05 am must stop in the office to sign themselves in)
Dismissal is at 3:50 pm (we ask students to be independent in middle school). This includes your plan for the end of the day. If you have a change of plans for your child at the end of the day, make sure your child knows you do not need to inform the office if your after-school routine changes. However, if your child is riding a different bus home with another student, BOTH students need a note from guardians, signed by the office before the end of the day).
Parent drop-off/pick-up
If you plan on driving your child to school, parent drop-off and pick-up occur in the North parking lot near the football field on the left side of the building. Please avoid dropping your student off in the shared parking lot with Chapelfield Elem, as this area is reserved for bus drop-off. Upon dismissal, please use the exit near the football field; the entrances and exits are one-way only. There is no parking along side the curb to pick your student up at dismissal. Please be patient and careful when driving at dismissal. There are a lot of students walking in the parking lot.
Lockers
We will use lockers this school year. Your student will be assigned a locker by their homeroom teacher during the first day of school. Students will be responsible for obtaining locks. Students are not permitted to share lockers; it is best practice to use them with a lock. Some locks may be purchased at the building (based on availability).
Students are not permitted to carry bookbags during the school day. Students are permitted to use drawstring cinch sacs no larger than the size of their chromebook.
Cell Phones
Please review our cell phone policy
