1st Grade Academy - Beginner

Join Sandi Brown, first grade teacher, for six sessions highlighting different components of a successful first grade classroom. Each session will feature a demonstration of the session's highlighted component and time for debriefing, discussion, and questions. First Grade Academy - Beginner is geared toward first and second year first grade teachers. In these sessions first grade teachers will learn best practices for literacy instruction. Teachers will receive PD focused on these practices, will have opportunities to observe lessons in a first grade classroom, and will have time to plan lessons together.

November 5th, 1:00 - 4:00 PM: Phonemic Awareness and Phonics

December 3rd, 8:30 - 11:30 AM: Guided Reading

January 14th, 1:00 - 4:00 PM: Writer's Workshop

February 6th, 8:30 - 11:30 AM: Shared Reading

March 10th, 1:00 - 4:00 PM: Interactive Read Aloud

April 9th, 8:30 - 11:30 AM: Formative Assessment

**All sessions will be held at Daybreak Primary, room 404**

A: Click the link below to log onto your ProDev account. Under the "Course Registration" tab, search for course ID 4696 "1st Grade Academy Beginner 2019-20", then click the "Register" button.
Q: How do I request a substitute?
A: Please complete a Pre-Arranged Absence request with your building secretary. Make sure to check the "Teaching & Learning" box, and indicate "1st Grade Academy with Sandi Brown" to ensure your substitute request is routed to the correct budget.
Q: Will I get clock hours for attending sessions?
A: Yes! Each session attended is worth 3 clock hours.
