If you’re trying to balance your budget, buy a home, fund your children's education, or ensure an income for retirement, you might benefit from hearing about financial literacy. Financial literacy and education are key contributors to overall health and wellness. During last Tuesday's Virtual Family Engagement Session, our friends from the African American Male Wellness Agency provided some great tools and tips to not only manage money with more confidence but also have a better chance of handling life’s inevitable ups and downs.

1. Quarter 1 grades are in. You only have one more quarter to bring up your final grades! See below on how to calculate and improve your final grades.
2. Make sure you've met with your counselor and gone over your Senior Graduation Notification Agreement. Do you know everything you need to walk in June?
3. Sign up for a FAFSA Application Workshop! One parent must complete the FAFSA with each student- you may attend ANY workshop through November 19th. FAFSA Information HERE. The earlier you apply, the more money you get.
4. Finish up any college applications. Keep working on the CCS Application Checklist. Make sure to check with your SCHOOL COUNSELOR- they oversee all of your application materials! He/she may have special processes for you to follow.
5. Register on scholarship search sites! Click HERE for suggestions for all kinds of students (scroll to bottom). Start applying!

All academic core requirements are semester classes which means students will earn final grades each semester for classes in English, math science and social studies. If students fail a .5 semester course, they will have to RETAKE it in online credit recovery/APEX. Seniors who fail, may not graduate on time. Talk to your teachers to see what you need to do to bring up your grades Quarter 2!

Know the formula:

First, ask each teacher if the course will include a final exam or final project. Knowing this will help you determine which formula to use below.

For classes without a final exam or project, calculate as follows:

Add the point values for each Quarter Grade and then divide by 2.

(Q1 GPA + Q2 GPA)/2 = Final Grade

For classes with a final exam or project, calculate as follows:

Multiply the point values for each Quarter Grade times 2. Add those totals to the final exam/project grade point value and divide by 5.

2(Q1 GPA + Q2 GPA) + Final Exam GPA, then divide by 5 = Final Grade

Tips to bring up your grades:

• Attend every class every day & complete all assignments.
• Reach out to your teachers for help. Schedule an appointment during Parent Teacher Conferences.
• Good students ASK QUESTIONS and advocate for themselves!
• Reach out to your school counselors for tips.
• Use FREE tutoring resources.
• Athletes: make sure to stay eligible for high school sports (bottom of page). Also know what you need to do NOW to be eligible for college athletics.

The Upward Bound Program is more than just a program, it is a mission. Those individuals who are accepted into the program are expected to attend and meet with Upward Bound staff during weekly in-school advising sessions, attend Saturday Academy sessions, traveling classroom experiences, cultural events, community service projects, a six-week Summer Institute held on the campus of The Ohio State University and Columbus State Community College.

The Upward Bound Program seeks to enroll high aspiring college bound high school students who are dedicated to their academic and personal success and believe in the mission statement of Upward Bound. We highly encourage first-generation and/or low-income college bound 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students who attend or live in the service areas of Briggs, East, South, or Walnut Ridge High Schools to apply for admission. Care Connection is a partnership between Nationwide Children’s Hospital, area schools, and your child’s doctor to provide additional access to health care at your child’s school.

In 2019, the Ohio Department of Education introduced new graduation requirements for students earning their diplomas in the Class of 2023 - and beyond. These new requirements allow students to Lead the Way on a pathway that aligns with their academic, and as well as personal, strengths and passions.

Senior Updates come out once a month. Newsletters are shared three times a year for juniors and twice a year for sophomores and freshmen.

In Franklin County, there are lots of resources to help pay rent and stop eviction. But those tools can be confusing and hard to find. This website provides simple, reliable, and easy-to-access links to the Central Ohio programs that keep us safe at home. This website also dispels common myths, provides eviction info customized to Franklin County, and highlights some of the places you can go to get even more help.

The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) is a federally funded program that provides eligible Ohioans assistance with their home energy bills. This one-time benefit is applied directly to the customer’s utility bill or bulk fuel bill.
