Safe & Secure Series: What does an "Evacuation" look like in PLCS schools?
The Standard Response Protocol (SRP) is a way to respond to different situations, focusing on general actions rather than specific events. Similar to the Incident Command System (ICS), SRP has its own set of terms, but it's flexible in how you apply them. It's straightforward: there are five actions to take during an incident.
"Evacuate" is one of the five incident responses, and it is initiated when there is a potential danger within the school building, such as an air quality issue or smoke/fire. During "evacuate," all students and staff are moved in an orderly manner to a safe area within or outside a building. The evacuation process is designed to be executed efficiently and safely, emphasizing the importance of clear communication and practiced response tactics to maintain a secure environment during crises.
Students are trained to:
- Follow Instructions
- Stay Calm
- Move Quickly
- Stay Together
- Leave Belongings Behind
- Wait for Further Instructions
- Lead students out of the dangerous area swiftly and effectively
- Once in a safe zone, take attendance and make sure all students are accounted for
- Remain calm
- Avoid Going to the School
- Stay informed
