November 2024 Newsletter
Odyssey Online Learning
Blessings from Mrs. Owings🍁
Hello, Odyssey Students and Families,
I sincerely hope this November Newsletter finds you all well. As we begin the 2nd 9 weeks, I want to share a few reminders:
1) Students, it is essential that you attend your daily live lessons and complete assignments EACH DAY for all of your classes. Our teachers plan all lessons and assignments to ensure you are prepared as set forth by our standards and the state of South Carolina. This is also an expectation here at OOL. If you are not, you will be receiving a call from the administration, and attendance will be noted in PowerSchool.
2) Parents, please be sure you are monitoring your student's progress. As a reminder, you can
view the progress of assignments and pacing as well. Should you have any questions on how to
do so, please reach out to our staff and we are happy to assist you.
In our 2024-2025 School Calendar, we do have three inclement weather dates built in. Due to being closed during Hurricane Helene, the following dates are make-up days for us:
Monday, November 25, 2024
Thursday, May 29, 2025
Friday, May 30, 2025
We are currently seeking a waiver for the additional three days that were missed. I will keep you updated as soon as an update is provided.
Thank you for all you do and for allowing us to serve you here at Odyssey Online Learning.
Please know we are always here to support you and make your educational experience the best!
I am only a phone call or email away! 🌟
Wishing you nothing but the best,
Mrs. Owings, Executive Director

🌟 November Students of the Month 🌟
Amalia Batten
We are honored to recognize Amaila as one of Odyssey Online Learning's Students of the Month. Amalia has truly set a high standard for academic excellence and commitment this quarter. She has excelled in all her classes, demonstrating both dedication and a passion for learning. Her hard work hasn't gone unnoticed, as her teachers have consistently praised her for the exceptional quality of her work.
One of Amalia’s standout qualities is how consistently she engages with her Student Engagement Specialist (SES), responding promptly and always with such a delightful and polite attitude. This speaks volumes about her character and the respect she shows to her educators, both in and out of the classroom. As one of our dedicated students, Amelia is a shining example of what it means to be a member of the Odyssey Online Learning community.
When asked about her experience at Odyssey, Amalia shared one of her favorite aspects: "I love that I can go at my own pace and how involved the teachers are." This flexibility allows Amelia to manage her time effectively while still maintaining her high academic standards.
Outside of her studies, Amalia loves spending time at the beach, a place where she can unwind and enjoy nature. It's clear that Amelia knows how to balance work and relaxation, and we're so proud of her for being an outstanding OOL student.
Congratulations, Amalia! Keep up the amazing work and thank you for being such a wonderful part of our school community!
Brady Shirah
Odyssey Online Learning is excited to feature Brady as one of this month's Student of the Month! Brady has shown remarkable dedication and perseverance, balancing both his studies and his work with impressive commitment. This year, Brady has been working hard to keep up with his classes while also holding a job as a garage-door installer. He travels for work, yet consistently manages to attend class, engage with his classmates, and interact with his teachers on Zoom. His hard work and positive attitude are truly commendable.
Brady’s teachers have been thoroughly impressed with his work ethic and presence in class. As one teacher shared, “Brady has been such a hard worker this year. He is passing his classes and is still able to juggle his responsibilities. I love having him in class!”
When we asked Brady about his experience with Odyssey, he expressed appreciation for the self-paced nature of the program. "It’s self-paced, and everyone is very helpful," he shared, which allows him to keep up with his academic goals while pursuing his work on the side.
Outside of school, Brady is a skilled garage-door installer, traveling around to help with installations. His ability to balance both work and school demonstrates his drive and ability to succeed in multiple areas.
We are so proud of Brady’s efforts and are excited to see where his hard work takes him. Congratulations, Brady, for being a fantastic OOL student and for managing your time so well between school and work! Keep up the excellent work!
Kaylee Turner
We are thrilled to recognize Kaylee as Odyssey Online Learning's Student of the Month! Kaylee has made tremendous strides this school year, showing her dedication to both her studies and her personal growth. Recently, she has been actively participating in class, attending office hours for extra help, and working on becoming a more effective communicator. Her teachers have taken notice, with one of them sharing, “Kaylee has really made an effort to improve. I’m proud of her progress and the dedication she’s shown to her studies.”
One of the things Kaylee loves most about Odyssey Online Learning is the flexibility it offers. "I have so much more time to do other things. It feels like a huge burden is lifted off of me because I don’t have to focus on school 100% of the time like I did at my previous school. I can live my life and be a teenager," Kaylee shared. This freedom allows her to explore her many passions and truly thrive.
Outside of school, Kaylee is involved in a wide range of creative activities. She’s a member of the Color Guard and is passionate about art, spending much of her free time drawing, crocheting, and reading. She also has a deep love for nature and animals, which further fuels her creativity. In addition to all of her hobbies, Kaylee is active in her church youth group, where she spends a lot of her time.
We are incredibly proud of Kaylee for the progress she has made this year and the balance she has found between school and her personal life. Congratulations, Kaylee, on being such a positive and driven member of the Odyssey Online Learning community! Keep shining!
Jonas Middlebrook
We are proud to recognize Jonas as one Odyssey Online Learning's Student of the Month! Jonas has demonstrated exceptional effort and dedication this quarter, earning outstanding averages in all of his classes. His teachers have been particularly impressed with his strong work ethic and positive attitude. One of his teachers shared, “Jonas has worked really hard this quarter. He is always easy to communicate with in geometry. He is kind and respectful, and I’m so glad to be his teacher!”
Jonas appreciates the flexibility that Odyssey offers, which allows him to learn in a way that suits him best. “Being able to do the work at my pace and having all the recordings of the live lessons to go back to when I need help has really helped me stay on track,” Jonas explained. This self-paced structure has empowered him to excel in his studies while managing his time effectively.
Outside of school, Jonas enjoys playing video games and staying active through sports. His ability to balance his academic responsibilities with his hobbies speaks to his strong time management skills and discipline.
Congratulations, Jonas! We are so proud of your hard work and achievements, and we’re excited to see all that you will accomplish in the future. Keep up the fantastic work!
