✋ Standard Response Protocols & Campus Emergency Drills
We train our staff and students in the Standard Response Protocols (SRP); Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, Shelter, and Hold. These five simple procedures give our staff and students the tools they need to properly initiate emergency response actions for any emergency that may occur on campus.
These SRPs are practiced regularly each school year at all campuses through drills. State law dictates that number of times each semester each drill has to be practiced.
Each week we will go over one of our SRP's that will be listed below along with a brief description of the protocol. For more information about each protocol, please visit: www.pfisd.net/srp
EVACUATE
Activated when we must leave our current area and relocate to a safer area.
Evacuate is called when there is a need to move students from one location to another. The most common use of this action is a fire drill, in which students are evacuated to predetermined staging areas.
📄 Employment Verification Process - Certification
As part of our annual employee verification process, all staff are required to access their certifications in TEAL to ensure that all required certificates have not expired. If any certification required for your current position has expired, follow the instructions below to renew your certificate(s) no later than October 31, 2024.
A certification audit will be conducted, and staff who have not updated their required certificates
will be identified and may be subject to pay and employment implications.
Should you have any questions regarding this process, please contact Certification Specialist,
Keitra Johnson in Human Resources.
If your certification is expired, please view the following instructions:

🚫 The Pfield Safety Procedures
Clear Bag Policy
As we begin athletic events, we kindly request your cooperation in adhering to the Clear Bag Policy implemented at The Pfield.
Please remember the following guidelines to comply with the Clear Bag Policy at the Pfield:
🟦 Clear Bags Only: Bags must be clear and not exceed 12 in. (by 6 in. by 12 in.) or be a clear one-gallon resealable plastic storage bag. This applies to all bags including diaper bags. One per person. Bags must be clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and have a maximum of one logo imprint not exceeding 4.5 in. tall x 3.4 in. wide.
🟦 Exceptions: The only non-clear bags permitted are small bags (with or without a strap) no larger than the size of a hand. Exceptions to the clear bag policy will be made for credentialed media and those with necessary medical items after proper inspection at designated areas.
Your cooperation with this policy is greatly appreciated, as it helps maintain the highest level of safety for everyone involved in this joyous celebration.
Metal Detectors
Pflugerville Independent School District is committed to ensuring a safe environment by protecting the health, safety, and welfare of all students, staff, and visitors of The Pfield Stadium. In addition to clear bags, The Pfield will also have metal detectors at all entrances to the stadium. The presence of metal detectors provides the community, parents, and staff with a sense of security when they know everyone in the facility has been screened. Providing a safe environment allows spectators to enjoy the game and feel safe.
Anyone who does not consent to a metal detection screening may be denied admittance. The process for spectators is below:
Spectators who seek admission into the facility must first proceed to the metal detector screening area.
Stadium Staff will instruct spectators on how to enter the metal detectors and guide them through the entrance. Spectators will be instructed to empty the metal contents of their pockets and carry them through the metal detector above their head.
If the metal detector alarm sounds while being screened in any areas besides the “above the head” signal, the spectator will have the opportunity to empty the contents of the area in question and the spectator will be wand-screened. The hand-held scanning device should be passed along the front, back, and both sides of the person being scanned without touching the body.
If the hand-held scanning device also activates, the law enforcement official or principal or designee will ask the spectator once again to produce the signal-triggering metal object.
Any illegal objects (i.e., firearms, knives, or other implements which can be used as weapons) found during the search will be turned over to law enforcement officials.
Spectators who refuse cooperation will be denied access into the facility.
The metal detector checks shall be neutral and non-discriminatory. No person shall be selected to be searched based solely upon his/her gender, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, physical appearance, manner of dress, or association with any particular group of persons.

This session will:
foster a supportive learning environment
enable students to build confidence and reduce test anxiety
set students up for exam success
COST: Typically, $25 to $100 per session, but this event will be FREE to current PfISD students who register & complete the full-day session.
REGISTRATION: On completion of this form, participants will receive a PSAT Prep Registration Confirmation in their student Gmail with further details regarding the event including day-of-the-event directions.

🎶 Fine Arts
The Fine Arts Department is collaborating with the City of Pflugerville to repurpose cast iron water meter lids into beautiful works of art.
Students from each of our four high schools finished their designs last spring and the lids recently found a permanent home in the courtyard of the Pflugerville Public library.
Please stop by the library and enjoy the first four (of many!) of these fantastic creations!
🔩CTE Corner
P-TECH Pfuture Teacher Academy “Stick Together” as they “grow” their teaching skills.
For the first week of school, the Weiss P-TECH Pfuture Teacher Academy classes used the Texas Association of Future Educator’s (TAFE) organization theme for this year 'Roundin Up Future Educators' or as the students say, 'Pfuture Educators', to create a variety of cacti to represent themselves.
Each student started with a Kawaii Cactus to represent themselves. They were then grouped to form a 'Cacti Patch' on the bulletin board because 'In This Class We Stick Together.' They then created a 3D potted cactus about themselves that included their individual and class goals. The 3D cacti now line the window sill in the classroom to represent all four P-TECH grade cohorts.
PfISD offers two Pathways to Technology Early College High School (P-TECH) academies in which students may earn an Associates degree in either teaching or cybersecurity, at no cost just weeks before high school graduation. P-TECH academies are transfer eligible programs, and transportation is provided.

👏 Pfamily Kudos
· Alicia Deleon-Heller, Elvia Franco of Art Department (via anonymous): These wonderful teachers are introducing the students of DMS to the world of art and all it's various forms. With Mrs. Deleon-Heller having the students learn about converging lines or Ms. Franco having students draw an image without lifting their markers; they are showing students its okay to make mistakes as long as they keep trying. That teaching of resilience in the midst of difficulty translates in all areas of life. DMS is lucky to have such great artist teaching our young leaders!
· Deidra Raney of ELA Department (via anonymous): Mrs. Raney envisioned the idea "Trivia Wednesdays" for DMS. This activity extends learning and promotes students to demonstrate their understanding outside the classroom in a fun and competitive way. Mrs. Raney is an amazing veteran teacher who continues to show that we can always provide ways to make lifelong learners.
· Enrique Rangel and Chris Bell of Transportation/Fleet (via Anonymous): Chris and Enrique continue to go above and beyond to ensure our EMT training ambulance is operational for the teacher and students. Recently they brought a parking barrier over to the campus to safely designate the ambulance parking and noticed the bumper needed repair so they took it back to Fleet and made the repair - before the teacher could even enter a request for service. Now that's great customer service!!

· Erika Hellmund of 5th Dual Language Teacher / Parmer Lane ES (via Betsy Cisneros): At our first PTO meeting, Ms. Hellmund graciously (and wonderfully) supported our PTO President and Secretary in translating (Spanish) the meeting for our parents who attended. Some of the words/concepts were a little challenging (topics: Title 1 compliance, GT identification process), however, Erika translated effortlessly - I know the parents truly appreciated it!
· David McAfee of Energy Specialist for Pflugerville ISD (via Lacey Ajibola): David is absolutely amazing. It doesn’t matter when I contact him or what the concern is, David resolves the issue quickly and ensures that my campus is comfortable. If you know David, you know that he always serves with a generous heart and an amazing attitude. The positive messages of humor that he leaves after energy conservation checks always makes my team smile. Thank you David for always being available when my campus needs you! It is greatly appreciated!

· Officer Kinney of CHS (via Nurse Kim): I wanted to take a moment to acknowledge Officer Kinney for his outstanding actions as a first responder to a recent incident involving an injured student. His quick thinking and proper tourniquet application made a significant impact on the outcome, allowing EMS personnel the time they needed to assess the situation. It had taken weeks and he must have tried just about every single route imaginable and kept hitting dead-end - after dead-end. But he never quit trying to find a solution... and pow-whoosh after probably the 100th time seeing him in a couple of weeks span (while mind you - he's also doing meetings and continuously working on tons of other tech tickets)... Ahhhhhh ... drumroll - it's works... lol THANK YOU PAUL AND ALL THOSE THAT HELPED WITH THIS (LIKE JAYME TOO😊)! Your hard work and dedication are appreciated! 📣 Shout Outs from Parents, Students, and Community Members
Felipe Castro of Hendrickson HS (via: Anon)
Coach Castro makes connections with students for a lifetime, not just while they are on his roster. He mentors students beyond the classroom. When a parent sends him an email, he finds time to respond with a phone call. Our junior, who was in his Spanish class as a freshman. still goes to him for guidance and advice regularly. Two years later, she continues to come home sharing stories about what Coach Castro did that day and her face lights up telling stories using the nickname he gave her. He has helped her gain confidence and leadership and we are so thankful for his impact on her. He is a difference maker!
Connie Hirajakdellana of Wiess High School (via: Kawynia W.)
Connie is such a joy to work with. She needed my daughter’s immunization record and unfortunately what she was sent from the previous school district was blank. Connie expressed how important it is to have the shots so my daughter can remain in school and also was able to be the most funniest person I’ve ever spoken with. She’s caring, thoughtful, patient, funny, and willing to help! I hope she can get recognition for her incredible work! Thank you for hiring great people!

We are a few weeks into the new school year, and I would like to take this time to commend Ms. Armstrong. She is new to our school, but not new to education. I emailed Ms. Armstrong to let her know a few things about my son. My son was a bit leery to return to EDP this school year, however Ms. Armstrong has made an inviting, fun environment. She embraced my email, and we discussed how she can make his time fun and enjoyable. Thank you, Ms. Armstrong, for caring and taking the extra steps for all our children at EDP.
Jeff Hughes of Riojas (via: Scott and Melissa L)
