October SOAR Report
At Stanford Middle School, we are proud to be a Title I School, which means we receive federal funding to help ensure that all students meet challenging academic standards. This funding allows us to provide additional resources and support to both students and teachers, particularly in areas like reading, math, and English Language Arts (ELA).
What is Title I?
Title I is a federally funded program designed to close the achievement gap for students who may be struggling academically. The goal of Title I is to provide schools with extra support for students who need it the most, helping every child succeed. This support can come in various forms, including:
- Academic intervention programs to help students improve in key subjects.
- Teacher training and professional development to enhance instruction.
- Parent involvement programs that encourage family engagement in their child's learning.
Why Are We Writing a Monthly Newsletter?
Our goal with this newsletter is to keep our Stanford Middle School families informed about what’s happening with the Title I program. Each month, we will share important updates, resources, and ways for you to get involved in your child’s education. Here’s what you can expect to find in our newsletters.
How Can You Get Involved?
Family involvement is a key part of the success of Title I. We encourage you to stay connected by attending school meetings, workshops, and other events that we’ll announce in each newsletter. Your participation makes a big difference!
APPLICATION FOR VOLUNTEERS IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS-Applications are required every 4 years. (Click Here to APPLY)
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to partnering with you throughout the school year to help our students reach their full potential.
Meet Our New Assistant Principal
Dear Stanford Middle School Community,
My name is Mrs. Hernandez- Ruiz, and I am thrilled to introduce myself as your new assistant principal and the 7th grade learning director! I am a proud graduate of Cal State Long Beach and was born and raised in Long Beach—so you could say I have Long Beach pride running through my veins!
Before taking on the role of assistant principal, I served as a school facilitator and math coach at an elementary school, and I have seven years of experience as a middle school math teacher. I truly missed the energy and enthusiasm of middle school students, which inspired me to return to this vibrant environment.
In addition to my passion for education, I’m also a math nerd and a softball umpire. On weekends, you can find me grilling up some delicious carne asada with my family, which is one of my favorite traditions. After school, I enjoy kickboxing to stay active, followed by a cozy movie night before bed. This year, I’m focusing on eating healthier and getting back into yoga, and I’m excited about the journey ahead.
I look forward to working alongside our talented staff, dedicated families, and, most importantly, our amazing students to make this year one of growth and achievement. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or just want to say hello. I can't wait to get to know all of you and be part of this wonderful community!
Warm regards,
Mrs. Ruiz

Are YOU High School Ready??
I-Ready Diagnostic 1
We are excited to inform you that your child has just completed their I-Ready Diagnostic 1 assessment! This important diagnostic will be taken three times throughout the school year to help us better understand each student’s academic needs and provide tailored support in reading and math.
What is I-Ready?
I-Ready is an adaptive assessment that provides valuable insights for teachers, administrators, students, and parents. It allows us to:
- Identify each student’s strengths and areas for growth.
- Track academic progress throughout the school year.
How Can I See My Child’s Results?
Your child’s I-Ready results are now available on ParentVue. We encourage you to review these results and use them as a tool to discuss your child’s progress and learning goals. Together, we can collaborate to ensure that your child continues to thrive academically.
