Good evening, Deer Canyon Families:

I hope your New Year has started on a wonderful note! Whether you went on an adventure, stayed local with loved ones, or did not leave the house, I hope these two weeks have brought you joy!

I am excited to welcome back all our Deer Canyon students this Monday! This week, I will be visiting each classroom to review our school expectations, which are centered around the core values of:

• Respecting yourself
• Respecting others
• Respecting the environment

As we return to school, I look forward to sliding back into our routines, hearing about your family's time away, and sharing in the joy of learning and growth together on campus again. Here’s to a fantastic 2025 filled with new adventures!

PARENTS/GUARDIANS: We need your help reminding students of school entry and hallway expectations! Recently, we have noticed an increase in the number of students congregating at the Main Gates before 8:20 am, then rushing, sometimes pushing, and running through the halls when the gates open. We ask that you assist us in a safe and orderly entry to campus.

• Please do not drop your student off and leave them unattended before 8:20 am. We do not have adult supervision before 8:20 am.

• Please ensure your student(s) are not crowding or grabbing onto the gate prior to our staff opening the gates.

• When the gates open, students are expected to walk to the gate entry, through the halls, and to their classroom backpack rack. All students are expected to drop their backpacks off at the backpack rack before heading to the playground.

• ESS students must also drop their backpacks at the backpack racks prior to playing on the playground.

Monday Messages will continue to reiterate these expectations. Your presence in the morning and reiteration of our practices and expectations will greatly support our efforts to keep students safe! Thank you for your partnership.

E-Bike Safety Class for Students & Parents

We are excited to announce an upcoming E-Bike Class for students and their parent(s)/guardian(s), aimed at promoting safe and responsible e-bike usage. The class will take place in the Performing Arts Center (PAC) at Mt. Carmel High School on Wednesday, January 8, at 6 pm. Attendees are highly encouraged to arrive at 5:30 pm so they have enough time to find parking and the PAC.

Join us at Pechanga Arena for a fun night out and small fundraiser on Friday, January 31, at 7 pm!

If we sell at least 100 tickets, all attending DC students can sing our National Anthem ON THE ICE with our Performing Arts teacher, Mrs. Angie Serrano. It will be a memorable experience for all! Check out some photos below from other school performances.

We've sold 78 tickets so far. Let’s make it to 100 and help our kids shine! Watching Gulls vs. Marlies will be a blast, too!

Tickets are $25 each. DCPSO will receive $6 back for every seat sold. Please fill out the Google form below to reserve and purchase your seats (seating chart included). We hope to see you there!

Please join us for this year's Winter Music Recital on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

We look forward to seeing our talented DC students perform! Click here to learn more and sign up to perform. The deadline to sign up is Jan. 8.

Each year, DC students and families get to “take a trip around the world” in one night at the Deer Canyon MPR. This year's event will be Friday, Feb. 28.

DC families set up tables with information about their country’s heritage, artifacts, and food samples. There are also multicultural performances to enjoy. It’s a great way to celebrate and learn about the rich cultural tapestry here at Deer Canyon.

This is a FREE event for our families, but we need your help. We are looking for families to help host tables!

New families interested in ESS:

All ESS enrollments are now online via the Interest link. If you sign up by the end of this month, are offered a spot and accept by the deadline, the start date is Feb. 3. The process is longer than the previous mandatory 2-day wait period. Please consider this when planning to enroll for this school year. If you have any questions on the process, please email enrollment-ess@powayusd.com.

Please check the Parent Communication Log sent to your email for information regarding Presidents Week Break, Pro Gro Day (DC only, 3/11) & Spring Break sign-ups. Weekly Activity Schedules will come out a few weeks prior to each break, if not sooner, to assist with your planning needs.

Our Spirit Wear shop is open and taking orders. Choose from tie-dye (perfect for FUNky Fridays), cartoon (fun for lower grade students — and adults!), school logo, hoodies (perfect for cold weather), zip-up jackets and more. Orders are placed online and can be delivered to school for free or you can pick up at Big Frog (next to Stater Bros).
