Hello Blackhawks!

Happy New Year Westville families! I hope everyone had a great Christmas! It is nice to be on break for another week before returning to the busyness the new year will bring!


Upon our return on January 6, I wanted to remind families that final grades will be posted to PowerSchool on Friday, January 10. Please be sure to check your child's PowerSchool account to see their Semester I grades. These grades will be listed on all high school students' transcripts. As a reminder, the school does not print report cards. If you need a report card printed for your child, please contact the main office. Lastly, students needing their transcript must request it through https://www.parchment.com. The school does not print transcripts.


I hope that you enjoy the rest of your time off. I look forward to seeing everyone when we return next week and gearing up for the last 18 weeks of the year!

EARLY DISMISSAL 1/8/25

All students in grades 7-12 will be dismissed at 11: 30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, for Teacher In-Service. Please make dismissal plans with your child accordingly.

🚨NATIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT APPRECIATION DAY!🚨

Westville Schools would like to honor all law enforcement on January 9 for National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day! We would especially like to recognize Officer Chavez, our school SRO, for all of the time, dedication, and commitment put forth to keeping our school, students, staff, and the community of Westville safe. PORTER COUNTY CONFERENCE SPORTSMANSHIP BANQUET!πŸŽ‰

The high school winter PCC Sportsmanship Banquet will be held on Sunday, January 12, at 2 p.m. at the Porter County Expo Center. Winter athletes will receive information from their coach, or families can contact Athletic Director, Mrs. Kruck, at rkruck@westville.k12.in.us. We look forward to celebrating our students' academic and athletic success as well as preparing for the upcoming PCC Tournament!πŸ“£

JANUARY SCHOOL BOARD MEETING: DATE CHANGE

The January School Board meeting will be rescheduled to January 15 in order to give adequate time and preparation upon returning to school. Anyone with questions regarding the meeting should contact the corporation office.

NO SCHOOL: DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. DAY

Westville Schools will be closed on Monday, January 20, 2025, in observance of the federal holiday.

2025-2026 ACADEMIC CALENDAR (SEE IMAGE BELOW)

On December 11, 2024, the MSD of New Durham Township Board of Trustees approved the academic calendar for the 2025-2026 school year. Please be aware of the following features of this calendar:


  • The first day of school for students will be Wednesday, August 13.
  • The last day of school for students is currently scheduled to be May 29. The week of June 1-5 may be used for additional snow make-up days, if needed. Graduation will be held on June 6.
  • One snow-make up day has been scheduled in the second semester (highlighted in purple on the calendar). This day will be used as an in-session day if we need to cancel school at any point for inclement weather. If inclement weather cancellations are not needed, the day will become a vacation day. Please be very careful planning anything for this day as there is a good chance that we will end up being in session on that day.
    • Four half-days for staff professional development have been scheduled throughout the year (noted and identified on the calendar). Students will be dismissed at 11:30 on each of these days.

    BUILDING BLACKHAWKS

    Are you interested in being involved with our school community? Building Blackhawks is a great way for adults to assist our students with successful life habits. Building Blackhawks is a mentorship program that works with students grades 7-12! You will be assisting students with academicas, social, emotional, and life skills that are needed to be successful.

    Mentors are required to fill out an application, complete a background check, and a training program that will benefit you as the mentor and build rapport with our students. Anyone who is interested should please contact our Director of Student Support Services; Mr. Barton. His email is included on the flyer below.     2024-2025 Student Handbook

    To access the Student Handbook, click here. All handbook acknowledgment forms are past due. If you have not turned yours in signed by a parent or guardian yet, please do so as soon as possible. Additional forms are available in the main office.

    Senior Scholarships

    All seniors should be checking their Grade-Level Google Classroom regularly for scholarship opportunities available. Mrs. Biancardi and Mrs. Urban can additionally assist students with completing college applications and scholarships. Please reach out if you have any questions!

    Updated Cellphone/Earbud Policy

    Students may bring electronic devices to school as long as they are not a disruption to the learning process. Cell phones should be turned off or on silent and must be placed in the cell phone caddy in each teacher’s classroom and remain that way throughout the school day during every class period. If a student needs to use the phone, he or she should request to use the phone in the main office. Earbuds are not permitted to be worn during classes or in the hallway. Students who refuse to follow this policy may be subject to disciplinary action.

    Chromebooks

    Any student experiencing technology issues or who has technology related questions should contact the IT Department at it_helpdesk@westville.k12.in.us.

    Transportation

    All drop off/pick up students should enter and exit through Door #3 and MUST use the crosswalk for the safety of everyone involved. Students who ride the bus should enter and exit through Door #8 located in the back of the school. Transportation related questions should be directed to Mrs. Kruck, Transportation Director, at rkruck@westville.k12.in.us.
