Heavenly Father,
we thank You for the gift of motherhood.
Today, we celebrate the loving sacrifice of mothers,
both biological and spiritual,
who nurture and guide us in Your ways.
Bless them with joy, strength,
and love to continue their selfless devotion.
Amen

P&F MOTHER’S DAY EVENT - Thank you to our P&F for organising a special Mother’s Day event next week. Our students are always very excited to have the opportunity to go shopping for a gift for their Mum for Mother’s Day. Children from Pre Kindy to Year 6 will have the opportunity to select the perfect gift for their Mum from the wide range of items available.
Thank you in advance to all our parent volunteers for supporting this exceptional event to ensure that it runs smoothly and successfully. Please see more information under P&F in this newsletter.
Our next P&F meeting is Tuesday 7 May at 7pm in the Library. All parents and guardians are welcome to attend.
INTERSCHOOL SWIMMING CARNIVAL - On Thursday 2 May, selected Years 4 – 6 students participated in the Interschool Swimming Carnival at HBF Stadium. Our students represented St Peter’s with pride, competing to the best of their abilities, displaying excellent sportsmanship, and encouraging their team throughout the day.
Congratulations to everyone who participated at the Interschool Carnival! Thank you to Eliza Hardie and the St Peter’s staff, (Steve Spencer, Conor Hunter, Kirstie O'Mara and Kelly Dalton) who supported the students with their early morning training and also on the carnival day. Please see below commentary from Miss Hardie with regards to the results and photo gallery.
COVID-19 & THE FLU - As we approach the colder months, cold and flus become more common. We are continuing to promote good hygiene practices at school and would appreciate if you could also remind your child/ren to:
- Regularly and thoroughly clean their hands with either an alcohol-based hand rub or soap and water.
- Cover their mouth and nose with their bent elbow or a tissue when they cough or sneeze.
The symptoms of colds can be similar to the symptoms of COVID-19. The symptoms of COVID-19 can range from mild to severe.
Common symptoms that COVID-19 and flu share include:
- Fever or feeling feverish/having chills
- Cough
- Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- Fatigue (tiredness)
- Sore throat
- Runny or stuffy nose
- Muscle pain or body aches
- Headache
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea (more frequent in children with flu, but can occur in any age with COVID-19)
- Change in or loss of taste or smell, although this is more frequent with COVID-19.
Please keep your child/ren at home if they are feeling unwell. We thank you for your support!
DANCE TROUPE - It has been wonderful to witness the commencement of the St Peter’s Dance Troupe rehearsals in our undercover area. All students from Years 5 to 6 were invited to participate in the Dance Troupe for the annual Catholic Performing Arts Festival. Thank you to Miss Abreu, Miss Tavani, Mrs Galipo and Miss Tonus for their enthusiasm and dedication to this performance. Also, thank you to our students and families for making the commitment to attend every after-school rehearsal. It is a big commitment, and we appreciate your support!
Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing Mums and mother figures in our community! Please see all information below from the P&F regarding the Mother's Day Stall. Wishing you all a wonderful day next weekend and thank you for everything you do!

Building Biz - Week 3
Our Early Childhood Build is progressing incredibly well. The windows and most doors have been installed and the internal paintwork has begun.
The leadership team met with the landscapers last week to review the Early Childhood Outdoor Play Space. The existing playground will remain, as will the Pre Kindy / Kindy Blue Classroom.
When the second Kindy classroom and all the Pre Primary classrooms are demolished, the existing early childhood bike path will be extended, as well as the junior primary oval space.

FAITH, STORY & WITNESS - As part of our Faith, Story and Witness, we are working towards creating a Dominican Walk that links with the school’s history. We have engaged with an artist who has created a timeline of the school’s history which is now displayed as you enter the school through the Wood St entrance. In the coming weeks, these pieces of art will each have a QR code attached to them for you can scan that will tell each part of the school’s history.
VOLUNTEERS IN OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY - We are so fortunate to have many ex-students come back to St Peter’s as volunteers. Orlando Tassone, along with his brothers, Roman and Fabian, have been working hard in our Quiet Area by planting herbs and vegetables that links in with the sustainability in our school. We appreciate not only the Tassone boys, but also their parents Mario and Marina Tassone, who always give up their time to help with the upkeep of our gardens and feed the chickens on weekends.
Interschool Swimming Carnival
We're thrilled to announce that yesterday's Interschool Swimming Carnival, held at HBF Stadium, was a resounding success!
Amidst fierce competition, St. Peter's demonstrated their prowess and dedication, securing an impressive 6th place overall in the A division carnival.
A special shoutout goes to our very own Raffaelo Batacchi (6B), who showcased remarkable skill and determination, earning the title of runner-up champion boy for Year 6 for the entire carnival. Your hard work and commitment have truly paid off, Raff!
But it wasn't just about individual achievements. Every single student from St. Peter's showed commitment and determination, contributing to our collective success at the carnival.
We also extend our heartfelt thanks to all students and parents for their dedication to early morning training sessions in preparation for the upcoming events.
Congratulations to all participants for representing St Peter's with pride and sportsmanship at the Interschool Swimming Carnival. Your dedication shines brightly, and we couldn't be prouder of our Interschool Team. 🌟🏆

Dance and Drama News
We are looking for skilled sewers to help create costumes for our Dance Troupe at the upcoming Performing Arts festival. If you can sew or know of someone who can help us, can you please email me on Katrina.abreu@cewa.edu.au. Thank you for your support! ✨
Thank you for all your help with providing the Performing Arts department pre-loved costumes. The students are having a ball dressing up and role playing with a variety of different costumes. We are now seeking more accessories and props (think plastic phones, baskets, crowns etc). If you have any that are lying around that you were going to throw out, please drop off in a bag to the Dance/Drama room. Thank you!

Seasons of Growth - Years 5 and 6
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are currently seeking expressions of interests from parents/guardians of students from Year 5 and Year 6 who think their child may benefit from partaking in our Seasons for Growth Program running in Term 3 this year. Change and loss are issues that affect all of us at some stage in our lives. Here at St Peter’s Primary School, we recognise that when changes occur in families through death, separation, divorce or significant change or loss, young people may benefit from learning how to manage these changes effectively. Therefore, we offer a very successful education program called ‘Seasons for Growth’ to students in Years 1-6. The Seasons for Growth program is evidence based and relies on research, strategies, and techniques consistent with high quality, psychosocial education and aims to strengthen the social and emotional wellbeing of children.
Small groups of 4-7 children work with a trained adult companion (facilitator) who supports the children in learning new ways to share, think about and respond to the changes and losses in their lives. The program will be run by Mrs Julia O’Meara (GATE teacher and trained Seasons of Growth Facilitator), who will be supported by School Psychologist, Mrs Tarryn Scher. As part of the program children learn that they are not alone in dealing with the effects of change, loss and grief. They build their understanding and communication, decision making and problem-solving skills as part of a supportive peer group.
Seasons for Growth takes place over a structured 8-week period filled with peer-to-peer learning opportunities – with time to talk and listen as well as take part in activities including drawing, music, art, journaling, role plays and storytelling. Sessions explore age-appropriate concepts, for example “change is part of life” and “caring for my feelings”. The story of the seasons is used to explain the cycles of life and provides a valuable metaphor for children to explore and understand their own story.
The program will run during school time and is free of charge.
If you think your child may benefit from the program next term, please complete the expression of interest form via the below link by latest Friday 24th May 2024 - End of Week 6.
https://forms.office.com/r/PNFCUGD1Xx
Please note that expressing interest does not guarantee your child a spot in the program. Students will be chosen based on highest level of need and their suitability relative to the other students in the group. You will be notified later this term if your child has been selected to partake in the program.
Please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher if you have any further questions about the program.
Kind regards,
Tarryn Scher (School Psychologist)
and
Julia O’Meara(GATE teacher and Seasons of Growth Facilitator)
